Clinical Research on Almased
25 years of scientific research
has validated all key claims
about Almased and its benefits
to health and well-being. One
such clinical study conducted
by the University of Freiburg,
showed the effectiveness of an
Almased programme on body
weight and body shape after
a period of four weeks. Twelve
overweight subjects consumed
Almased for breakfast and dinner,
as well as a low-fat regular meal
at lunchtime. The participants lost
an average of 10.6 lbs in weight
which the researchers attributed
to the positive influence Almased
had on hormonal levels 2 . Today,
we know that a multitude of
mechanisms are responsible for
the effect Almased has on the
body (Figure 1).
In a follow-on longer-term
intervention 3 , the effect of
Almased on body composition
was examined. The six- month
study showed participants
lost fat but unlike other diets
they also retained important
muscle mass. This retention
of the muscles integrity is key
to any successful weight loss
programme.
Figure 1: Significant Advantages of using Almased
Did you know?
Almased is suitable for overweight people with Type 2 diabetes
Nearly 4 million people in the
United Kingdom suffer from
diabetes, some of which
have a hard time losing
weight because of their high
insulin level. Type 2 diabetes
makes up the majority of
those affected and it is this
metabolic disorder which
occurs mainly in people who
are overweight. Although
their bodies produce insulin,
their cells do not react to it
in the normal way. Sufficient
glucose is not absorbed
properly, so blood sugar
levels rise. In response to
this, more insulin is produced
to normalise blood sugar
levels. It is this high insulin
level which encourages
fat deposition and inhibits
fat breakdown.
Almased is suitable
for people with Type 2
diabetes because it has
a high proportion of plant
based protein and is low
in carbohydrates. This
is positively reflected in
Almased’s low glycaemic
index (27) and extremely low
glycaemic load (4). Foods
with low GI and GL values
ensure a slower release of
insulin, not only supporting
healthy blood sugar levels,
but subsequently inhibiting
the storage of fat and
stimulating fat loss. As
clinical testing has shown,
a diet supported by Almased
leads to improved weight
loss, reduced fasting and
long term blood glucose
levels, as well as fasting
insulin levels 4 .
Those with diabetes should
measure blood glucose
levels before using Almased
and two hours thereafter.
This way it can establish
how Almased affects the
blood sugar pathway.
Levels should ideally be
below 8.5mmol/L two hours
post shake 5 .
How to use Almased
Almased is a meal replacement
that can be used to replace one,
two or three of your daily meals;
alternatively it can be used as
additional supportive nutrition to
your existing balanced diet.
A 50g serving (5 heaped tbsp)
of Almased mixed with
200-350ml of water or lowfat
milk and 1-2 tsp of oil
(i.e. flaxseed, walnut, rapeseed,
olive) is important to achieve
your energy and nutritional
needs. It is recommended to
add this small amount of oil
to each Almased shake in order
to ensure an adequate intake
of essential fats which our
bodies need.
The Almased programme
offers two different plans which
you can follow; the 14-Day
Figure Plan ensures timely
and effective weight loss, while
the Long-Term Plan can be
used for an extended period
or until you have reached your
desired weight.
