188. The immediate duty of everyone who knows about the Subtle World is to affirm
the existence of this invisible but real world every time the opportunity presents itself.
Some people may respond by getting angry, but it will give them an opportunity to think
about reality. If research on human physiology were supplemented by the study of the
Subtle World, which connects all the various conditions of existence, our world would at
once enter into a distinctly new era. I can affirm that the commotion arising from the
present turmoil has attained unprecedented proportions, because the bond between the
worlds is totally ignored. Let nobody claim that he has not been warned in due time. Let
the traveler not forget that he cannot return to the house that he left behind, that it is only
by his own efforts that he can reach the Luminous City to which he has been summoned.
Let the traveler remind everyone he meets at the crossroads that paths are irreversible.
189. The appearance of Our trusted messengers can be accepted as a sign that the
New World is now being born. I criticize all those who are failing to notice the myriad of
signs appearing everywhere in the world. The Teacher can tell a person to look, but He
cannot force him to see. Do not be surprised that in the mosaic of the book Heart so
much is included about the Subtle World and the Great Battle. Many hearts sense both of
these realities, but often they cannot express them in words. Yet the thought born in the
heart with the swiftness of light will express itself in words.
Remind your friends that there is a good reason why their hearts are aching.
190. In order to sharpen the senses of taste, hearing, and smell, people shut their eyes;
in order to concentrate the sense of sight they accompany their gaze with hand gestures.
So people adopt all sorts of artificial methods because they cannot balance the effects of
psychic energy. Likewise, people do not know how to strike a balance between
indignation of the spirit and equilibrium. Both concepts are indispensable for attaining
perfection, but how can one reconcile militant indignation of the spirit with wise
equilibrium? Usually these concepts seem incompatible, but what allows indignation of
the spirit to avoid turning into irritation and creating imperil if not the response of
equilibrium? And far from giving rise to imperil, an enlightened, selfless indignation
creates the most precious, ruby-colored armor. So it is only when psychic energy has
been given the right direction that a treasure takes the place of poison. But what is the
judge of true selflessness? Of course, it is none other than the heart. And not just any
heart, but precisely the heart that is facing Infinity.
191. I want to accustom you to the scales of Infinity. Understanding of these scales
develops slowly, as does the ability to use them in commeasuring events. A neophyte
cannot grasp the universal context and dimension of various events. To him it is difficult
and unusual even to rearrange his room. How, then, is he to think about universal wings!
He is also held back by his concern about the pettiest possessions, and he does not see the
stage at which any condition is acceptable because it has been weighed on the scales of
Infinity.
192. A disease may nestle inside a person for a long time, but if it does not manifest
in gross physical form, no ordinary physician will recognize it. Ten prophets and
clairvoyants may testify to the existence of a hidden disease, but they will be looked upon
