Is it hard to shop because you’re
at work Monday through Friday?
A full moon – complete with the bright addition of Jupiter – is
Famous golfer Byron Nelson once remarked, “The only thing you
should force in a golf swing is the club back in the bag.” Like life, golf
has its good days and bad days. You can score well on one hole but blow
up on the next one; have a great round one day and then show up for the
Pro-Am on the next day and embarrass yourself. That’s golf for ya. If I
find myself getting frustrated out there, the best thing I find to do is take
a deep breath and try and make up for it on the next hole. And, you can
always let a little steam off Byron’s way, by taking it out on your clubs!
This week at the golf course in Ajo, lots of players came out to perfect
their golf swings and here are the golf scores for play from December
4 to December 9:
Ten skins players turned up to let off some steam last Monday; Dick
Gates made a skin on hole # 4, Bill Conley got one on #5 and Frank
Milene had a skin on #9. Meanwhile, back at the clubhouse, Marty was
busy teaching Carmelita, his new pet javelina how to fetch his balls out
of the pond.
Tuesday, the Men’s League had fifteen players on the fairways. With
a score of 69 Tony McGarry took first place for the second week in a
row. Bill Conley shot 68 for second and Dick Gates got away with third
place with his score of 71.
Frank Milene and Carol Peek broke the winning streak of Bill and
Paula Doremus in the couples best ball contest last Wednesday. Out of
eight couples, they shot a 29 to take first while Bill and Paula settled for
second place with a 30.4. Marty and Marlene McCrystal claimed third
with their 30.6
Twenty nine golfers competed in last Fridays Pro-Am game and we
had a lot of tie breaking holes to count to determine the winners. Three
teams were two under par and in third place after going to the 5 th playoff
hole for third place was the team of Bill Parker, Patty Taylor, and
George Steckel led by Paul Barnhart. In second place was Captain Mike
Sheridan, Bob Mitchell, Harley and Elaine Murray. First place was determined
after going to the 7 th playoff hole! The winners were: Captain
Lonnie Alvarez, Lito Castillo, Norma Steckel and Ernie Ochoa.
The tee-off time for this Saturdays Holiday Pro-Am Scramble &
Steak Fry has been changed to 1:00 p.m. A steak fry will follow after
the round; golfers bring your own meat to grill and your own plate and
silverware; the club is providing salad, side dishes and dessert. For this
tournament, 10% of total team handicap will be used for scoring; a sign
up sheet is in the clubhouse with more details on the contests, prizes and
teams for this event. You do not have to golf to enjoy the barbeque but
please sign up in advance so we can plan the food.
Also this weekend is our annual holiday yard sale (check the classified
ads). All proceeds are earmarked for upgrading club kitchen equipment.
Nine and Dine twilight golf specials are now being offered from the
Pro shop as well as gift certificates for the golfer on your Christmas list.
Please see ads about all of these events elsewhere in the Copper News.
