Unique Learner Number It is a requirement that every learner must be given a Unique Learner Number (ULN). This will be given automatically when you enrol on an Adult Learning Service course. This will allow you to track your achievements at any college or centre you may attend. Please keep this information in a safe place as you may be asked to provide this number at enrolment with us or with another provider. Data Protection – Fair Processing Notice The Learning Records Service (LRS) is operated by the Skills Funding Agency. LRS offers a Learner Registration Service to allocate ULNs which enables the individual to access a Learner Record Service. The Learning Record Service will offer the learner the facility to access their participation and achievement data via a website and to share this with other organisations and individuals where permission is granted. In order to access this service you must provide the Adult Learning Service with evidence of your identity, (examples include passport, driving licence, ID card or other form of national ID, National Insurance card, certificate of entitlement to funding, bank credit/debit card). Some documentation can be the same as the proof of residency evidence that you are also required to provide. The LRS will allow those organisations listed on section 537A of the Education Act to use the Unique Learner Number as a key to sharing participation and achievement data in a consistent and approved manner - promoting good information management practice. All organisations that will have access to the information you provide are registered under the Data Protection Act 1988. At no time will your personal information be passed to organisations for marketing or sales purposes. Individuals can opt out of sharing participation and achievement data with those organisations. Details of this can be found at www.learningrecordsservice.org.uk or by telephoning the LRS helpdesk on 0845 6022589. Please note you cannot opt out of having a ULN. 8
Health and Safety All learners should have a healthy, safe and supportive environment. To help us to achieve this aim: • we train our staff about health and safety including safeguarding/DBS checks, first aid, risk assessment and personal safety • all learners taking part in physical activity must complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire so that their tutor is aware of any health issues. Tutors will also need to know about any health changes from week-to-week (confidentiality will be respected at all times, or appropriate to circumstances) • make sure that you always know how to leave the building safely if there is an incident or a fire drill • respond positively to your tutor’s advice about safe practice in your learning eg when using specialist materials or equipment • drive and park on sites with care - there may be children in the area • parking spaces for the disabled should only be used by those with a disability • we are all responsible for health and safety so let us know if you identify a real or potential hazard 9
