Usher in the new year with songs and dances in Bintulu. Sarawak’s<br />
very own Gas Town is hosting the countdown to 2009. “An Evening<br />
in Bintulu” is an annual event organised by Bintulu Administration<br />
in collaboration with all government departments and fully supported<br />
by various agencies from the corporate sector as well as NGOs<br />
(non-governmental organisations). This extravaganza will feature<br />
singers and dancers from the various ethnic groups of Sarawak. Be<br />
wowed by the sight of the colourful and intricately made traditional<br />
costumes, which help distinguish the different ethnic groups from<br />
each other. Mingle with the friendly people and enjoy the multitude<br />
of shows throughout the evening.<br />
This event showcases just how unique Sarawak truly is with all the<br />
different ethnic groups under one roof. This is a chance to rejoice<br />
in making new friends too. After all the interactive aspect of the<br />
event aims to help inculcate cooperation, collaboration and unity<br />
among all the people in the town. What makes it even more exciting<br />
is that the majority of visitors have come from all over Sarawak<br />
just to be a part of this joyous occasion.<br />
While the majority of the per<strong>for</strong>mers are local groups, there are several<br />
guest per<strong>for</strong>mers and special invitees. In the past some outstanding<br />
per<strong>for</strong>mers have participated in the event. This trend promises to<br />
continue this year with the increase in numbers of singers and dancers.<br />
This attractive occasion is also a family affair which aims to promote<br />
harmony and unity among family members.<br />
The locals always embrace this event with open arms. The atmosphere<br />
is a cheerful celebration of what makes Sarawakians standout from<br />
the rest of the crowd in Malaysia. It’s a sight to behold with all<br />
the different races enjoying themselves harmoniously through music.<br />
