08www.<strong>gsi</strong>asia.net October 2012TECHNICAL SHARING -SPACE HEATERYet Chee WaiSenior Mechanical EngineerEquipmentHouse temperature has a substantialinfluence on birds’ health and per<strong>for</strong>mance.In cold climate zones,adequate heating system is a necessityto provide an optimal housetemperature <strong>for</strong> the birds to live in.<strong>The</strong>re are several types of heatingsystem available in the market such as<strong>for</strong>ced-air heater, conventional brooders,radiant brooders, radiant tube heaters,high intensity radiant heater and‘alternative heating systems’.<strong>GSI</strong> is proud to offer our high efficient<strong>for</strong>ced-air heaters, the Super Saverand Purafire to our customers. <strong>The</strong>sehigh efficient heaters maximize thethermal yield convected to the birdswith minimal energy costs.A comparison of energy efficient andcost saving is given in the followingexample of a case study. In an area of40’ x 250’ will require 450,000 BTU/hourof heat, which is equivalent to 12 unitsof conventional brooders operatin<strong>gsi</strong>multaneously to deliver the energy toheat up this area. Each brooderconverts 0.85 kg of LPG to 40,000BTU/hour; there<strong>for</strong>e, total LPGconsumption per hour is 10.2 kg.Compared to <strong>for</strong>ced-air heaters, only2 units with an output of 225,000BTU/hour are required to do the samejob.
