preparing for the worldLunches and SnacksDulwich College uses the Sodexo Company to provide staff and student lunches and snacks. Sodexo operates a hot andcold snack station located within the Senior School Dining Room at morning break times and lunch times, which can beaccessed by all senior school students. Sodexo also operates the café located in Dulwich Lane, offering the same snackoptions plus coffee. However, only students in Years 10 to 13 have permission to enter the café.There is a College wide Nutrition Committee that consists of representatives from DUCKS, Junior School and SeniorSchool staff and students as well as parents of children from all three schools. The Nutrition Committee offers staff,students and parents a chance to feedback directly to the Manager of Sodexo any concerns, suggestions or criticisms thatthey have. Regular surveys are taken and acted upon.Payment SystemTo facilitate payments and avoid students carrying cash, all students will be issued with multi use IC cards. The IC cardscan be loaded up and the cost of catering and photocopying and printing services will be deducted using a swipe system.These cards will also serve as security cards. The IC card can be reloaded at any time between 8.00am and 4.30pm in theSenior School Canteen Monday to Friday.Daily ProcedureThe official school day begins at 8.15am and students are to report to their tutor room prepared for the morning lessonsfor registration by the form tutor. Registration finishes at 8.25am at which time students are to make their way to their 1stperiod class. All students are required to attend all classes throughout the course of the day and to arrive promptly withall required materials.AbsenceIf your child is absent from school due to illness, parents should contact the Senior School office via e-mail by 8.15am,senior.absence@dulwich-shanghai.cn, form tutors must also be included on the email. Or alternatively call the absenceanswer machine service on 33821805 before 9.00am. Please see full absence policy on page #Students leaving before the end of the school dayIf parents are aware that their child will need to leave school early during a school day they must inform the Form Tutor inwriting. The Form Tutor will then inform the Senior School Office. The student must be collected from the Senior SchoolOffice and submit a permission slip signed by the Head of School or designated Deputy Head to the Security Guards onleaving the site. The Guards will be instructed to turn back any student who does not have the required permission slip.Other Forms of TransportIt is important that our parents are aware of the regulations regarding Bicycles in Shanghai. From the College perspective,our priority is in ensuring that our children are kept safe and, to this end, we would like to encourage you all to insistthat your children wear safety helmets whenever they are riding their bicycles. We are all aware of how dangerousroads in Shanghai can be and we regularly receive reports of accidents, many involving fatalities of cyclists. We haveactually discussed the idea of making helmets compulsory for allchildren electing to cycle to school but the reality is that we haveno jurisdiction over how parents elect to transport their children toschool. We would all be very grateful of your support in this regard.We will be expecting our staff to act as role models by wearinghelmets whilst they are cycling and I would encourage our parentsto do the same.Traffic ArrangementsOutside the College is very busy during drop off and pick up times. On the advice of Jin Qiao traffic police, we operate adrop off/pick up routine.In order to create a safe drop off/pick up environment for the students outside the school gate, we would like to ask yoursupport in telling your driver to strictly adhere to the following regulations and listen to school staff and school securityguard’s instructions.Please drop off and pick up children on the Drop Off/Pick up Area and leave straight away. Do not double park or triplepark to drop off/pick up students on Lan An Road or drive/park against the flow of traffic. Please also do not make aU-turn on Lan An Road and do not park at the Drop Off/Pick Up Area or on the Zebra crossing.Our guards are stationed outside the gates on the main campus in order to assist with drop off/pick up. There is a conedoff section of approximately 4 cars lengths directly in front of the main school gates for drop off/pick up. The remainderof the north-bound road is available for parking. Please be aware that it is illegal to park anywhere on the south boundside of the road and traffic police can and do fine drivers who disobey this rule. Double parking is never allowed as it willhinder the flow of traffic.Below is a map detailing the above, which we ask you to share with your driverBussingThe College offers a bus service in Pudong and Puxi with one-way and return trip options. Services may not be availableto distant locations and we will not create a bus stop for fewerthan three students. One-way bus riders are charged at alower rate than round trip bus riders. Bus refunds for studentswithdrawing from the College are calculated in the same manneras tuition fee refunds for withdrawing students. Bus refundsfor students who need to change their bus arrangements duringthe school year will be handled individually.All bussing arrangements are made via Student SupportServices.11 12
