Technology Network Spring Symposia:
If you really want to know
what’s happening in the realm
of engineering at Raytheon,
just attend one of the
Raytheon Technology Network
(TN) annual symposia. You’ll
find the most enlightening
technology collaboration activities
available today. Each year,
the six TNs host discipline-specific
forums to share current
technology trends, customer
imperatives and strategic
road maps. The forums also
provide essential networking
opportunities for engineers
and technologists to foster
knowledge sharing.
Software Systems Symposium
Nearly 500 participants gathered in Dallas
on April 30 for the Software Systems
Symposium, titled “Technical Excellence via
Innovation and Revolution.” Topics included
the changing global marketplace, enabling
technologies and disruptive innovation.
Raytheon recognizes that remaining competitive
in today’s global climate requires an
understanding of sustaining vs. disruptive
innovation. We must anticipate the
customer’s real needs in order to develop
a specific, out-of-the-box solution to the
customer’s job at hand, while maintaining
our ongoing business objectives.
In his presentation, “Refreshing the
Engineering Spirit Through Innovation,”
Mike Vahey, Processing Technology Network
lead and an Innovation Champion, noted
the importance of targeting products at
specific circumstances, rather than the
customers themselves.
“While there are many technical challenges,
we are currently focusing our disruptive
innovation efforts toward solutions for
Persistent Tracking/Assured ID and Novel
Effects,” added Dave Breuer, formerly both
the director of Technology and leader of the
Raytheon Technology Networks. “To succeed,
we must identify and implement
disruptive innovation methodologies that
will work for us and which can coexist with
our ongoing sustaining business activities.
It’s very encouraging to see the level of
interest on the part of the technical and
business communities.”
Electro Optical Systems
Symposium
Events
Using Collaboration to Drive Innovation
Now in its ninth year, the 2007 Electro
Optical Systems Symposium united nearly
300 engineers and technologists in Dallas
on May 15. The event’s theme was
“Innovative EO Technology for Integrated
Mission System Solutions.”
During one session, Raytheon was praised
for leading the world in thermal optic and
