NICK NICKSONRADIO PLAY-BY-PLAYIn his 26th season with the Kings, Nick Nickson, the radio “Voice-of-the-Kings,”calls the action of every pre-season, regular season and post-season game onKTLK AM 1150 and along the Kings Radio Network.A veteran with more than 30 years of hockey broadcasting experience totalingmore than 2,600 games (including more than 2,200 with the Kings), Nickson’ssmooth, fast-paced and accurate delivery of every play allows the listener to “seethe game” as the action unfolds. As a tribute to his broadcasting excellence, onthree occasions he has been nominated by his broadcasting peers as one of thetop radio play-by-play announcers in Southern California.Nickson began his hockey broadcasting career in the 1975-76 season as the voice of the Rochester Americans(AHL) before joining the New Haven Nighthawks (AHL) in 1977. He spent four seasons (1977-81) calling theaction for the Nighthawks before his association with the Kings began.In addition to his broadcasting duties, he has been instrumental in developing and maintaining the Kings RadioNetwork while assisting the Kings Communications department in writing and editing the annual media guide,the Kings Care Foundation and is involved in the Kings Alumni Association. He has written more than 150 storiesand articles on the <strong>NHL</strong> and the Kings and his work can be read in the club’s Royal Reign magazine. He isa member of the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Association and the National Hockey LeagueBroadcasters Association, and for seven summers (1983-89) baseball fans may remember Nick’s voice as thepublic address announcer at Dodger Stadium.Also, on January 21, 2006, the Kings held “Nick Nickson Day” at STAPLES Center, and Nickson was honored onthe ice before a game for his 25 years of service to the organization as a radio and television broadcaster. Aspart of the ceremony, the club officially announced that the broadcast booth area at STAPLES Center had beennamed the Nick Nickson Broadcast Center in his honor.A native of Rochester, New York, Nickson attended Ithaca (N.Y.) College and served as the Sports Director forthe school’s radio station while doing play-by-play for Ithaca’s hockey, football, baseball and basketball teams.After graduating in 1975, he worked as a disc jockey for two stations in Rochester before beginning his careerin hockey shortly thereafter.Nick and his wife, Carolyn, reside in Santa Clarita and have two sons, Nicholas and Timothy.2001Kings upsetDetroit infirst roundof playoffsDARYL EVANSRADIO COMMENTATORIn his eighth season as the Kings radio <strong>com</strong>mentator, Daryl Evans and veteranplay-by-play announcer Nick Nickson are heard on all club radio broadcasts onflagship station KTLK AM 1150 and along the Kings Radio Network. During the1998-99 season, Evans worked alongside Nickson as a back-up <strong>com</strong>mentator, andalong with his role on the radio, Evans is also an executive with the Toyota SportsCenter in El Segundo, formerly serving as the facility’s General Manager.A member of the Kings as a player from 1981-85, Evans scored the franchise’smost memorable goal in a game forever remembered as the “Miracle onManchester.” Facing the heavily-favored Edmonton Oilers in the best-of-five firstround of the 1982 playoffs, the Kings pulled off two huge upsets – one, in winning the series three games totwo; and two, winning Game 3 of the series.Down 5-0 in the third period of that game on April 10, 1982, the Kings steadily chipped away at Edmonton’slead and tied the game with five seconds left in regulation. At 2:35 of the extra period, Evans, then a rookie,sent a shot over Grant Fuhr’s shoulder to seal an improbable end to an incredible game.Prior to his full-time radio role, Evans served as the Director of Premium Seating Sales for STAPLES Center, wherehe was responsible for sales of luxury suites, premier seats and the premier club. Prior to taking the positionat STAPLES Center, Evans managed at Martin Cadillac in West Los Angeles from 1992-99.Originally selected by the Kings in the ninth-round (178th overall) of the 1980 <strong>NHL</strong> Entry Draft, the left wingrecorded 52 points (22-30=52) in 113 career <strong>NHL</strong> games with the Kings, Washington Capitals and TorontoMaples Leafs.
