Nachtwald (Night forest), 2008<br />
Three dark paintings have been placed on the meadow in front of the residential buildings along the Wyssloch<br />
valley, their dimensions approximating those of the façaces. The theme of the tryptich is the forest – more<br />
precisely the night-time jungle. We can see segments of huge tree trunks outlined against a dark sky, with weblike<br />
delicate small trees and bifurcations between them. Other images gradually emerge from this night forest.<br />
The gigantic painting toys with our perception: wherever we turn, we see faces or individual sensorial organs<br />
such as the tongue, an ear or an eye. This is how Nachtwald conjures up dark fantasies, creatures, nightmares<br />
and daemons. The complex picture puzzle created by the sisters Claudia and Julia Müller from Basel stands<br />
in a line of works that present visual illusions based on their drawings.<br />
