He hasbeen an inspiration andcatalyst for our Districtas well as our very ownprestigious <strong>Club</strong>. Let us joinhim in this special day. Thebest birthday gift we cangive him is to support the<strong>Club</strong>. As he mentioned lastweek during his Governor’svisit we need to bring upo u r m e m b e r s h i p a n dattendance to be as strongas before. This meanscalling up old friends tocome back and invitingnew and young membersto join our <strong>Club</strong>.Lastly, today we alsohear about bantay.phwhich will be the youngBaby Rotarians projectthis year with a budgetalready sponsored by PPSonny Tambunting. Carlo Rufino together with First AnnCat booked a flight to Malaysia on 26 July toattend the 23rd Installation <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> our closestSister <strong>Club</strong>, RC Bukit Bintang.It was a warm night matched only by theeven warmer welcome that they received duringthe sisterhood agreement signing amidst thewelcome dinner hosted by RC Bukit Bintang.Banners and tokens were exchanged betweenour President Carlo Rufino and RC Bukit Bintang’sPresident Munjit Singh with IPP Yap Fatt Lam,PP Rick Loh and PP Teoh Kwan Swee observing.Picture was taken by First Ann Cat.On 27 July, the formal Installation Banquetwas held at Berjaya Times Square Hotel in KualaLumpur. It was packed with almost 100 foreignguests with RC <strong>Makati</strong> being introduced as thebiggest and wealthiest <strong>Club</strong> in our District. TheInstallation Ceremony was also used by RC BukitBintang to raise funds for their projects.They were also taken to a tour and sightseeing. One <strong>of</strong> the most notable tours was a visitto a home for the aged, where most <strong>of</strong> them wereabandoned and living on top <strong>of</strong> a morgue whoseowner donated the second floor.Pres. Carlo is encouraging everyone to join himand other members on his next trip as the <strong>Club</strong>continues to reconnect and renew our ties with ourSister <strong>Club</strong>s and to personally experience the warmhospitality from our Sister <strong>Club</strong>s............ Carlo shared with the <strong>Club</strong> histrip to Bukit Bintang. He was very welltaken cared <strong>of</strong> by Catherine and Willyboth <strong>of</strong> which are members <strong>of</strong> RC BukitBintang (RCBB) from airport pickup allthe way through the weekend until heleft. Pres. Carlo said that their memberswere very close-knit and active club witha lot <strong>of</strong> projects. Despite having about100 foreign guests they were able to hostall <strong>of</strong> them for dinners and tours. Pres.Carlo was put on the spot when theywere called one by one to raise funds.He said that <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Makati</strong> wasintroduced as the biggest and wealthiestclub in Manila and in the Philippines.He will ask the Board if <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Makati</strong> can donate even a small amountto <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong> <strong>of</strong> Bukit Bintang. One <strong>of</strong>these projects is the Home for the Agedwhere many abandoned elderly peoplelived on top <strong>of</strong> a morgue donated by theowner. While a bit morbid because theirview <strong>of</strong> the cemetery, nevertheless, it wastouching to see the generosity <strong>of</strong> RCBB ingiving shoes. Pres. Carlo suggested thatwe should take a look if these happens inthe Philippines and perhaps, do a projectto see how we can help and look after thewelfare <strong>of</strong> the elderly who may also havebeen abandoned.Pres. Carlo had his share <strong>of</strong> fun times2Kaunlaran No. 06 • 6 August 2013when he was taken out ona tour <strong>of</strong> the Batu caveswhich took 270 steps toget to (First Ann Cat wentup in half the time it tookPres. Carlo), lots <strong>of</strong> requisitedrinking during his visit andate a lot <strong>of</strong> Chinese food.Most <strong>of</strong> all, though it wasthe camaraderie and funnature <strong>of</strong> RCBB’s membersthat made the trip somemorable. Accordingto him, their club is a veryactive and a good club. Hefurther said that they feel abit bad because RC <strong>Makati</strong>,who is their close <strong>Club</strong>,were not visiting themmore <strong>of</strong>ten. With this, Pres.Carlo wants us to give moreemphasis on the inductionsand visits to our Sister<strong>Club</strong>s.First Class Pres.Munijit, who is an Indian,promised to visit RC <strong>Makati</strong>sometime this year withsome delegations and forRC <strong>Makati</strong> to visit themtoo in September. Robert urged that we shouldstart looking out and see who are thosepeople, business leaders and pr<strong>of</strong>essionalleaders that we can bring to our <strong>Rotary</strong><strong>Club</strong>. He said he cannot be talking to allother clubs and ask them to transformthemselves from a small club to amedium club, from a medium club to alarge club and come back to his own clubdeteriorating. He wants to make sure that<strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Makati</strong> takes the lead andshow the example to all other clubs in thedistrict that the quality <strong>of</strong> membership isincreasing.RC <strong>Makati</strong> was a recipient <strong>of</strong> alot <strong>of</strong> Matching Grants from <strong>Rotary</strong>International Foundation according toGovernor Robert. There were so manyprojects like the 3H Water Project where<strong>Rotary</strong> received about $180,000 to builddeepwells in Pampanga which washeaded by PP Tito Panlilio. A MatchingGrant was applied for the Anti TB whichwas also headed by PP Puno. Starting thisyear, Matching Grant will now be calledGlobal Grant. Our club, Gov. Robert said isthe leader as far as total amount donatedover the years is concerned and our Past<strong>Rotary</strong> International Director was the veryfirst Rotarian to be recognized in the ArchKlump Society.The 4 Way Test<strong>of</strong> what we think, say or do!1.
