InductionsAll employees working at a LeightonContractors’ workplace will undertakesome form of induction. The inductionwill vary depending on role and location,and include the Group induction,branch inductions, project inductionsand visitor inductions.Technical CompetencyThis covers employees working in highrisk activities, such as plant operations,working at heights, confined spaces andother areas, required to demonstratespecific competencies to work safely andto comply with legislative requirements.Evidence of competency is generallyobtained after an assessment by arecognised trainer/ assessor. Once onsite, the verification of competenciesmay also be undertaken to comply withlegislative and client/site requirements.Essentials Risk AwarenessEmployees supervising high riskactivities have the required competencyto manage the work safely and to complywith legislative requirements.Safety Foundation ProgramThe Safety Foundation programprovides the Divisional specific trainingfor managers in relation to systemimplementation and basic leadership.To ensure that a consistent approach istaken to the way SH is managed acrossthe company, the Safety FoundationProgram should be undertaken byall leaders, from engineer/supervisorupwards, as the initial safety course.The objective of these nationallyaccredited programs is to ensure thatall supervisors can demonstrate therequired competencies to systematicallymanage their teams to work safely,through leadership, planning,implementation, measurement andevaluation, and management review.These nationally accredited programsprovide the opportunity to learn how touse the Leighton Management System,as detailed on Our Way, to manageSH. A series of courses will cover thecore competencies required at variousleadership levels.SH ProfessionalsA specific program will also bedeveloped for safety professionals toensure that our Safety Managers andAdvisors have the required underpinningknowledge of the systems used byLeighton Contractors, to support theiroperations.Leadership and managementTo ensure that all our managers havethe required competencies to lead,communicate and manage their teams,a range of leadership programs arebeing developed.The Leighton Contractors’ LeadershipDevelopment Framework has beenrunning successfully for some time andwill continue to support our safety andhealth approach.Safety Leadership ProgramPrograms have been developedfor all safety critical employees andsubcontractors ranging from leadinghand through to senior managers.23
