It has multiple caryopses i.e.having 3-4 spikelets per node, 45-55 clusters perpanicle (photograph enclosed). It was derivedfrom sonachur (an indigenous local variety)through individual plant selection. The mutant line28
having the morphological characteristics like 105- 109.48 cm plant height, 10-12.93 number oftillers, 8.73-10.82 number of productive tillers, 17-19 cm panicle length, 27.5 cm flag leaf length,1.17 -1.21 cm flag leaf width, 53.05 number ofclusters/ panicle, 3.05-3.78 number of spikelets/cluster, 189.47-192.19 total number of spikeletsper panicle, 0.74 cm kernel length, 0.28 cm kernelwidth and 23.0g test weight. The standard agronomic practices includestransplanting of 25 days old seedlings into mainfield with 2-3 seedlings per hill with 20 x 15 cmspacing, fertilized with 100:40:40 (NPK) alongwith 20 kg ZnSo 4-tested for both transplantedwetland and direct seeded upland conditions. Thecrop matures in 120 – 125 days. Grain yieldrecorded 55q/ ha under irrigation and 34 q/ haunder rainfed conditions.Aggies Dhan 2 tested at multilocations underAll India Coordinated Rice Improvement Projectthrough Directorate of Rice Research duringkharif, 2006. The culture got following results :Aggies Dhan 2 tested for Diseases:Aggies Dhan 2 is highly resistant to rice blast. It is a serious disease of rice and causessignificant and some times total yield losses. Itmay infect the leaves, nodes, panicles, and otheraerial parts of the plant. It is moderately resistant to (a) Sheath rot(b) Tungro virus and (c) Brown spot.Aggies Dhan 2 tested for Insect Pest :Gall midge is a serious pest in all the states ofIndia. The symptoms are characterized by theoccurrence of white tubular structures commonlycalled silver shoots or galls which are infactmetamorphised leaf sheaths.Aggies Dhan 2 is highly resistant to Gall midge.Stem borer : Stem borer is serious pest of rice. The striped borer, yellow borer, white borer andpink borer are important types of stem borers.Aggies Dhan 2 is resistant to all four types ofstem borers.Brown Plant hopper : Brown Plant Hopper(BPH) is a serious insect pest of rice. Themicroclimate of semi-dwarf varieties under highlevel of fertility is ideal for its multiplication. Undermild infestation, there is general loss of vigour, reduction in tillering and severe infestation causesa condition called Hopper Burn and may causecomplete destruction of the crop.Aggies Dhan 2 is resistant to brown plant hopper, white mouth, thrips.Identified two rice mutant lines one is with earlymaturing duration (below 100 days) and other oneis having multi-caryopsis future with dark browncoloured spikelets from mutation breedingprogramme being carried out by Dr. J.
