SPECIFIC ADVANTAGESA WELL PROVENTYPE OF CONTACTThe first applicationsIn 1995, we designed our first springloadedcontacts for mobile telephony. At this period of time, the marketfor mobile phones was expandingat a very fast rate. The requests ofthe customers concentrated on threebasic requirements: miniaturisation, reliability, low cost. The new springloadedcontact with its helical compressionspring, presented by PRECI-DIP, was the perfect answer.Research and designIn order to respond to the requirementsof this application, we developeda variety of innovative solutions, requiring a considerable investment. We also acquired a specificknow-how, which we now makeavailable to you.Admits important positioning tolerances of the connectors.Compensates errors of parallelism and flatness.A developing marketThanks to its numerous advantages, the spring-loaded contacts quicklyfound uses in a variety of otherapplications. The ease of integration and the inherentsimplification of the mechanicaldesign and assembly of electronicequipment brought our connectorsinto an omnipresent position on theconnectors market. Presently, we canaffirm that PRECI-DIP is one of theworld leaders in the production ofspring-loaded contacts.Connects surfaces non-perpendicular to the contactaxis.Connects pivoting or rotating elements.General characteristics- Very long lifetime: up to 100,000cycles;- Excellent electrical characteristics;- Very good resistance to shocks andvibration;- Small dimensions for use in applicationswith limited space;- SMD, through hole, press-fit orwire soldering terminations;- Very good design flexibility: floatingcontact, double action contact;- Many product versions, from 3 mmcontact length upward;- Tape & Reel or carrier packagingfor automatic assembly equipment.Connects with sliding mating action (push & lock)e.g. audio connectors, camera lenses, etc.Suitable for blind matings: connection solution forconfined assemblies. The connectors can be supplied on tape & reel for processing on automatic pick and place assembly lines.

TECHNOLOGY OF SPRING-LOADED CONTACTDESCRIPTION ANDTECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONSFunctional principlePRECI-DIP spring-loaded contactsare composed of a contact body orbarrel, a piston and a helical compressionspring. The electrical contactis established by the pressureexerted by the spring of the pistonagainst a fixed, flat area of theopposite part. This is currently calledthe «dead connector».Characteristics Standard contacts «High Reliability» contactsPiston Slant piston Clip Clip+ barrel type + barrel coaxial design in-line designAn evolving lineBased on this initial model, we havedeveloped additional designs featuringparticular advantages:- contacts with a slant spring bearingsurface of the piston. Thisdesign exerts a lateral force on thepiston, resulting in a lower ohmicresistance.- patented contact design with integratedmultifinger sliding contactestablishing electrical continuitybetween the contact body and thepiston. This solution, protected byinternational patents, comes in twoversions: «coaxial» type and «inline»type. The electrical multipoint connectionbetween the mobile pistonand the clip guarantees low, stableelectrical resistance values withoutmicro-discontinuities, evenwhen the piston is moving or incase of vibrations, thus assuringmaximum reliability. We can produce a wide range ofdimensions with varying technicalspecifications (see table).Contact us!We will be happy to help you withadditional information on existingproducts and their technical data orfor a study of a customised product. Please visit us at www.precidip.comor mail us at: sales@precidip.comEnvironmentalOperating temp. range - 55 to + 125 °CMaterialsPistonBarrelGold plated machined brassGold plated machined brassSpringStainless steel / gold plated music wireClip – – Gold plated Gold platedBeCu C17200 BeCu C17200MechanicalMin. diameter 1.8 mm 1.5 mm 1.8 mm 1.0 mmMin. initial height 3 mm 6 mm 5 mm 10 mmTravel / height ratio Max. 0.3 Max. 0.2 Max. 0.2 Max. 0.15Max travel (stroke) 2 mm 2 mm 1.5 mm 1.5 mmMin. initial spring force 0.2 N 0.2 N 0.2 N 0.2 NMechanical life Min.100'000 cycles Min. 50'000 cycles Min. 40'000 cycles Min. 40'000 cyclesElectricalContact resistance Max. 15 mΩ* Max. 10 mΩ* Max. 20 mΩ Max. 20 mΩMax operating current 3.5 A cont.** / 7 A peak 2 A cont.** / 4 A peak* Static measurement in halfway position of piston travel.** Above max. current values are for single contacts in free air and for 10°C temperature rise.
