You will see in this Vetrunner(Page 22) advice that the Club willhold two general meetings onThursday, May 22 at the West DeakinHellenic Bowling Club. You may ask – why two generalmeetings? The explanation lies in theproceedings at our 2002 AnnualGeneral Meeting. A Motion on Noticehad previously been forwarded to allmembers to the effect that changes tothe Club Constitution be made as setout in an attached single Motion. ThatMotion contained a number ofelements, some with very minorchanges of wording, others containingimportant changes relating to votingprocedures and the duration ofconsecutive terms for which apresident could be re-elected.When the matter came to debate,it was pointed out that the framing ofall these proposed changes as a singlemotion meant that members werefaced with an “all or nothing’ choice. The opportunity to debate theimportant implications of theelements of the Motion, making adistinction between minor and majorchanges in the Constitution, was lost.As a result, the members directedthe 2002-2003 Committee to resubmitthe proposed changes as separatemotions to be put to members at aFROM YOURPRESIDENTSpecial General Meeting prior to the2003 AGM and for those changes to bedebated and voted upon individually.Accordingly, a Notice of Motionhas been prepared, the proposedchanges have been separated, andmembers will have the opportunity todiscuss the changes and vote on themas separate motions. This will be done in a SpecialGeneral Meeting commencing at6.30pm on May 22. A three quartersmajority is required for approval ofconstitutional changes. This is set outin the ACT Associations IncorporationAct.At 7.30pm I will open the 2003Annual General Meeting. Reports byoffice-bearers and sub-committees willMay Vetrunner — Page 3provide the opportunity for membersto ask about all aspects of ouroperations. A draft budget for 2003-2004 will be presented. The final item is the election ofoffice-bearers for 2003-2004. JackPennington has agreed to benominated as Club Patron once more.Election of a new ACTVACCommittee for 2003-2004 will follow. This is an opportunity for newmembers to step forward to seekelection. Indeed, all positions fallvacant at the conclusion of OtherBusiness. At the time of writing, personal commitments have led acouple of current Committee membersto inform me that they will not renominate.Indications are that, as inprevious years, a good balance of newand continuing members ofCommittee will eventuate. But that isfor you, the members, to decide.JOHNTHANKS TO ALL THE MEMBERS OF ACTVACOn behalf of Margaret and myself I would like to thank the ACT VeteransClub for their card and kind thoughts following Marg’s recent heart attack.Marg is now on the mend and making a full recovery at home and is gettingback to walking and regaining her confidence. It just goes to show that no matter how well you look after your health youcan never be sure that things these won’t happen to you.
