Kenilworth is located in the heart of theEast Side of <strong>Milwaukee</strong>. In addition to having a more mature population,Kenilworth also has the largest number of graduate students ofany of our buildings. If a cosmopolitan view of life in the US is one ofthe traits that brings you to <strong>UW</strong>M, Kenilworth is the place for you.<strong>UW</strong>M Residence Hallsfeature suite-style housing, w<strong>here</strong> two to fourbedrooms share a semi-private bathroom. Thisgives you a smaller community within a community,allowing you to build friendships fromthe moment you move in. For those who enjoycooking or a sense of home, many of buildingsinclude individual kitchens.Our communities are designed to help you becomfortable and successful at <strong>UW</strong>M.Resident Assistantsare student employees who live on the individualfloors of our Residence Halls. These students helpyou to meet people, find resources on campus,and plan events for you and your neighborsto participate in. In addition, we have professionalstaff that live in each of our buildings, tomanage the day-to-day operations of the building,and ensure you get the most out of your staywith us.RESIDENCE HALL LIVINGCambridge Commonsis the newest building (opened in 2010). Located near the heart of<strong>Milwaukee</strong>’s East Side neighborhood, Cambridge Commons featuresa clean, contemporary style. All suites in Cambridge have doubleoccupancyrooms, so students living t<strong>here</strong> should plan on having aroommate. Suites in Cambridge Commons come furnished with afull-size refrigerator, but our Cambridge Upgrade suites also have afully furnished kitchen and living room. If you are looking forwardto exploring the city of <strong>Milwaukee</strong> in addition to <strong>UW</strong>M, CambridgeCommons is a great option.Purin Hallis a small community of only 50 residents, mostly returning sophomoresand juniors. Purin’s apartment building layout also featuresfurnished kitchens in every suite. It also has single-occupancy rooms,for those students who do not want to have a roommate.RiverView Hallwas built in 2008, and is comprised mostly of first-year students. Locatedon the banks of the <strong>Milwaukee</strong> River, RiverView residence hallgives our international students the most typical residence hall livingexperience. With its centralized cafeteria and terrace, and numerousstudy lounges, RiverView gives its residents many options when itcomes to studying and hanging out.Sandburg Hallsare the most centrally located of our Residence Halls. It has fourhigh-rise towers that combine to house nearly 2,800 students. Thenewest tower, East, also has fully furnished kitchens. All floors ofSandburg have student lounges located centrally, to give residentsa place to study, relax, or socialize. Sandburg Halls are a perfectoption for international students who want to be right in the middle ofthe university.TRANSPORTATIONUniversity Housing students enjoy 24/7 shuttle service between allResidence Halls and the <strong>UW</strong>M Kenwood Campus. INTERNATIONAl STUDENTS!RESIDENCE HALLS<strong>UW</strong>M Residency Policy"Those freshmen who are under age 21, not veterans, married orliving with parents or guardian shall be required to live in a Universityoperated Residence Hall when such accommodations areavailable."Ample research across the United States over the last 30 years hasprovided compelling evidence that students who live in universityprovidedhousing perform better academically and enjoy a higherdegree of satisfaction with their college experience, than studentswho live off-campus or commute.The <strong>UW</strong>M policy is consistent with the policy of the University ofWisconsin System Board of Regents Policy #24-2.Specifically, the <strong>UW</strong>M residency policy applies to students who arefirst-time, full-time freshmen AND are 20 years of age or younger asof September 1 at the beginning of the academic year in question.The following students are eligible to request an exemption from t<strong>here</strong>sidency requirement: those living with parents or guardians,• those who are 21 years of age or older (as of 9/1),• veterans,• students who are married or who have an affidavit of domesticpartnership, or• those students who are themselves parents.In addition, students with extreme financial or personal hardshipsmay also request an exemption from the residency requirement.To Request an Exemption from the<strong>UW</strong>M Residency PolicyIf you would like to seek an exemption from the <strong>UW</strong>M ResidencyPolicy, complete the Request for Exemption form available at:http://bit.ly/IyWANaSubmit the completed form, along with any supportingdocumentation, to the University Housing Office(e-mail: university-housing@uwm.edu; fax: (414) 229-4127).Contract ProcessOnce you have a contract issued to you,go on-line to complete the contract atwww.uwm.edu/housing/myhousing.Two weeks after the contract is completed a chargefor the $300 deposit/prepayment will be postedto your PAWS account. Once you have completedthe contract and made your prepayment, you aredone with the contract process and can await yourhousing assignment. Assignments are typically firstmade available in early June and continue to bereleased throughout summer.Move-InStudents will be assigned a specific day and time tomove in to the Residence Halls. Those dates will befrom August 29-31, 2012. Assignment of times formove-in will take place in early July.
