Surface testing of deep-drawing sleeves<br />
High precision deep-drawn components are used in<br />
diesel and fuel injection systems. These caps and sleeves<br />
are also subject to very high pressures, even with wall<br />
thicknesses as low as 0.4 mm and must be free from<br />
cracks. The task therefore is normally stated as follows:<br />
100% crack testing.<br />
Test areas:<br />
All cylindrical outer surfaces and flanges, shoulders and<br />
cap areas<br />
Solution:<br />
Depending on the task, horizontal or vertical rotary<br />
indexing tables are used. The specimens are fed in<br />
bulk and placed on a rotating changer. Depending on<br />
the required cycle time, high resolution sensors move<br />
along the cylindrical surfaces at up to 8 test stations.<br />
Fixed sensors test shoulder, cap and flange areas. The<br />
components also rotate at over 1000 rpm. The sensor<br />
clearance is 0.1 mm.<br />

Fault resolution: Cracks as little as 60 µm in depth<br />

50 to 140 components/min<br />
This task can be combined in an integrated system with<br />
the monitoring of correct heat treatment and testing for<br />
incorrect material.<br />
