The Story Behind This Story<br />
This is a story that <strong>GUNS</strong> was ready to publish six months ago but<br />
we were asked not to print it. The request came from the U.S.<br />
Army chief of ordnance and <strong>GUNS</strong> was happy to cooperate with<br />
the Army in the interests of national security. Since that time<br />
sources outside the U.S. have partially disclosed the news of Rus-<br />
sian arms re-equipment. The Army has as a result stated that it<br />
has no objection to <strong>GUNS</strong> publishing information derived from<br />
sources outside its ordnance department.<br />
