Three types of events have been adopted<br />

The target for singles (or two in doubles)<br />
flashes from the traphouse at 16 yards from<br />
the shooter. A regulation clay bird travels<br />
.about 50 yards per second when it makes its<br />
appearance. By the time the trigger is pulled<br />
the target has "flown" from 35 to 40 yards.<br />
Skilled trapshooters, however, usually shatter<br />
their targets at distances between 32 and 35<br />
yards.<br />
Trapshooting is one of the more ancient<br />
sports, compared with present-day recrea-<br />
tions. It had its beginning around 1750 in<br />
England. The name came from the fact that<br />
in its earlier days live birds were imprisoned<br />
in traps and then fired upon when released<br />
at the call of the gunner.<br />
The first attempt to put it on an organized<br />
basis in England occurred in 1810. First<br />
mention of shooting trapped birds in Amer-<br />
ica goes back to 1831, at the SPort$menys<br />
Club, Cincinnati, Ohio.<br />
As conducted today, there is little differ-<br />
ence in the procedure. The principal changes<br />
