HEALTH ... AND BEAUTYPricelessPearlsBy Ralph EstherbyHave you ever been in a situationwhere you felt like the only personwho didn’t know anyone else inthe room?Maybe you have felt it when youstarted a new job or when you went tohigh school for the first time. Maybeyou joined a new sporting team ormaybe it was when you took up thatnew hobby of synchronised underwaterjuggling.I had this situation this week as I wasgiven the task of looking after a groupof about 200 men and women I hadnever met before. At first it was bitstilted – they spent a couple of dayssizing me up, trying to work out ifI was someone they wanted to getto know but as time progressed thebarriers were slowly let down and webegan to make real progress. The thing that made the differencewas time and exposure. The moretime I spent with them, the moreconversations I had, the more we atetogether, walked together, workedtogether and slept under the sameroof the closer we become.Real friendship and connection takestime and effort, there are some whodo not want to be connected toanyone else but they are few and farbetween. Most of us crave connectionand are glad when we find it…butoften we forget that it only grows whenwe put some effort in.A good friendship does not feel forcedor contrived. A good friendshipis comfortable and easy but it stillrequires you to do something.I believe that to truly be a friend youcan’t just sit back and wait for it tohappen, you have to make a choiceand make a move towards them. The Lord challenges us about whatis most important to us and whatwe think is most impressive aboutourselves.“Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wiseglory in wisdom, let not the mightyglory in might, nor let the rich gloryin riches; But glory in this, that youunderstand and know Me.”Jeremiah 9:23The Lord is not impressed by howmuch you know, how strong you areor by what valuables you possess– He is only interested in how well youknow Him and understand His ways. For some it might feel like He is astranger standing at the other side ofthe room…make an effort…make amove – He is worth getting to know!Do you have a comment or aquestion?ralph.estherby@gmail.com‘Breakthrough Church’, meets at9.30am Sundays at the PerformingArts Centre (Old Bowling Club)-Edgeworth David Ave Hornsby- 9477 7222Walks and Talksat Ku-ring-gaiWildflower GardenThe second talk of the third term of the Monday Walks and Talksat Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden, 420 Mona Vale Road, St Iveswill feature Apiaceae, Asteraceae and Goodeniaceae includingDampiera purpurea (pictured). You are invited to meet at 9.45am at the Education Centre;wear a hat and suitable shoes.
