BUSH TELE LETTERSDear BT,In defence of the new paving on BrooklynRoad (TBTW 4/7/13)For many years pedestrian access/safety onBrooklyn Road has been a hot topic at theBrooklyn Residents Association meetings andHornsby Council. No funds were available andthe whole idea stagnated until it was realisedthat other funds would be available for aCycleway/Footpath.Everyone was well aware that certain sectionscompromises would have to be made – the areaDr Angell refers to in her letter is one of those“compromises”.We are already enjoying the increased safetyof these works – particularly in the area fromwalk behind the guard rail without fear of beingsquashed by speeding cars.We would like to thank the committee and allothers who worked very hard to reach this stage.John & Mary Hajinakitas, BrooklynDear BT,Yes, Dr Angell (TBTW 4/7/13), I too have noticedthat the council, in their present roadworks inBrooklyn Road, is not allowing enough room fora truck and a boat to pass in opposite directions.In my opinion, they are making the footpath, onthe left hand side of the road going into Brooklyn,and just past the old convent, far too wide, at theexpense of the width of the carriageway.Peter Samuel, Berowra HeightsDear BT,Barb Angell recently commented on the newlynarrowed section of Brooklyn Road and thelikelihood of colliding boats (TBTW 4/7/13).Is it possible that Hornsby Council, now largelya collection of Liberal Party councillors, hasdecided to introduce its own “Stop the Boats”policy in sympathy with its Federal leader?Such a policy would be extremely popular inmany parts of Brooklyn, where people areregularly awakened on weekends by bouncingboat-haulers who imagine that Brooklyn Road isan extension of the F3.“Turn them back!” we say.
