ALZHEIMER’SVincenza DiLiberti, ChairHearing a diagnosis of Alzheimer‟smust be a devastatingpronouncement knowing in yourheart there is nothing on earth thatcan change it or even cure it. Thishappened to “Richard” who lives inCalifornia; “this rocked my world,”he said. Knowing the progressioncould be either slow or at a steadypace, Richard decided to do all thethings he had put off doing formany years.In addition, to keep himselffocused he has been in contactand receives support from theAlzheimer‟s Association on both alocal level and from national headquarters. Also,since he is in the early stages of the disease, theAlzheimer‟s Association has designated him anadvocate and has sent him to lobby in bothSacramento, CA and Washington,D.C. on behalf of funding forAlzheimer‟s research and care.The support he has received andgives to those also inflicted withthis dreadful disease has givenRichard the ability to give a voiceto all those with early stages ofAlzheimer‟s. One assumes thisdisease afflicts elderly people,when in truth there is no agedistinction.
