These two classifications make up thecrimes reported to the FBI’s Uniform Crime <strong>Report</strong>ingProgram, which is the national system for calculating crimerates.The eight most serious crimes (in bold) — homicide, rape(sexual assault), robbery, burglary, assault, larceny, motorvehicle theft (stolen vehicle), and arson — are consideredPart I or Index Offenses in the FBI's crime reportingprogram.
