Special Note:We cannot cover everything in the lectures you need to know for the course or for any of theMicrosoft Exam(s) you may desire to take. That is why you have the text and Internetreferences. You will be tested on topics that have not been mentioned in class, but which werestressed in the readings and the labs. You should read the assigned materials, complete alllabs and be prepared for such questions.Because this class is designed as a preparatory course for taking the 70-640 Microsoft CertifiedTechnical Specialist Certification Exam I feel it appropriate that I only give academic,professional and personal recommendations to students that have successfully completed thatlevel of accomplishment. This is a good thing as it gives every student the opportunity toachieve an industry recognized Microsoft certification.Assignments:ALL work is self directed meaning you are to complete all work on your own. If you share thisclass with a friend, spouse, or roommate you cannot turn the same assignment in for the two ofyou. EACH PERSON MUST COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THIEIR OWN WORK. No credit willbe given for work submitted in a “team-like” fashion. IN other words…DO YOUR OWN WORK!Plagiarism is against College policy and all work submitted is first reviewed for uniquenessbefore actual grading begins.Assessments:There will be 4 text “concepts” oriented assessments, counting 60%; 24 module labs that areaccessed through the MOAC virtualized site, counting 15%, and a final “skills” exam counting25%. All exams will be designed around the textbook readings, class discussions, the courselabs and are structured to mimic a Microsoft Certification exam on the MCTS certification track.Labs (24) 15%Quiz 1(Chapters 1-3) 70-640 15%Quiz 2(Chapters 4-6) 70-640 15%Quiz 3(Chapters 7-19) 70-640 15%Quiz 4(Chapters 10-13) 70-640 15%Final Exam 25%TOTAL WEIGHTED POINTS 100%All chapter quizzes are eLearn (online) based and may be taken in class or outside theclassroom. NO exam Retakes are allowed. Failure to complete any exam on thescheduled date will result in a score of ZERO (0) for that exam. NO EXCEPTIONS.Grading Specifics:Each assignment will be graded on the ability of the student to follow instructions, quality ofwork turned in, completeness of the assignment, and accuracy of the information submitted. Inevery attempt to be fair and equitable to all I have found it is straight-forward and easiest toassess a 5 point deduction for every MAJOR error relating the items noted above. Eachassignment will be graded and a generic summarization of the issues AS A GROUP may beposted to the CHAT area. If you need specific direction it is your responsibility to email me forfurther discussion regarding your performance on a specific assignment.
GradingStandardsStudent Attendance Criteria (Campus classes only)The percentage (%) point deduction reflects a penalty for missing class lectures and/or labs.A 90 -100 Absences Points deducted from final gradeB 80 - 89 2 3% points will be deducted from your final gradeC 70 - 79 3-4 5% points will be deducted from your final gradeD 60 - 69 5-6 15% points will be deducted from your final gradeF 8 50% points will be deducted from your final grade(How to Read) The grading standards on the left of the chart above note the overall gradingscale for the course. The Student Attendance Criteria matrix on the right side of the chart notesthe percentage (%) points that will be deducted from your final earned weighted average for theclass due to absences from the required class lectures and/or labs.example: If you are continually present in the course for all required class and/or labsessions OR have one absence you will not be penalized on your earned weighted grade for theclass. Let’s say your final earned weighted average calculates to a 92.8% but you missed 3days of required meeting time. Using the Student Attendance Criteria matrix above your finalearned grade for the course would be an 87.8% or “B” for the class. Thesecircumstances may include extended family leave approved by theCollege, personal validated illness that requires an extendedhospitalization stay, a death in the family, or military/industry leave. Eachstudent’s case will be individually assessed and a written performance tosucceed contract will be agreed to and documented by that student andmyself prior to the incomplete being assigned. I will address each studentsdocumented absences on an individual basis so I can best assist each ofyou progress through the class.As noted above work is due when assigned and will not be acceptedlate.
