31 AugustHEADMASTER'S NEWSLETTER 31 August 2011Dear Edwardian FamilyI am exceptionally pleased to announce the imminent commencement of a long awaited project that willsignificantly enhance the academic landscape of our School.Three years ago the School's library was sacrificed to allow for its conversion to a new staff room facility, aswell as two new computer laboratories. Subject to raising required funding of R5.5m, the intention was tothen convert the existing old gymnasium into a new media and museum complex, incorporating a library. The extraordinary generosity of Peter Faber (Class of 1956) and Tutty Faber (Class of 1957) and two otherOld Boys, Sir Donald Gordon (Class of 1947) and Chris Gerber (Class of 1982), has realised the requiredfunding, and with it confirmation that the project will commence during September 2011 – completion istargeted for March next year. We extend our sincere gratitude to these Old Boys. This state of the art complex will house a Media / Library and Resource centre, with appropriate computerresearch functionality – in addition, the existing museum will also be relocated to the new facility.Undoubtedly this Media / Library Resource Centre Project when completed will be a centre where the KingEdward VII boy’s young minds will be inspired, motivated and empowered to be all that they can be!The architect in charge of this new centre is Joy Campkin-Smith and her artistic impression of the projectportrayed below highlights the wonderful new facilities:

It is also opportune to express sincere thanks to the various parents, Old Boys and other friends of the KingEdward family whose unstinting and ongoing fundraising efforts and generous donations, have contributedto ongoing facilities improvements which we have been able to conclude in recent years (none of theseproject's have been funded from school fee revenue). These have included:• Extensive paving projects• Indoor cricket net facilities• Rob Wray Pavilion and gymnasium• Tuck-shop lounge and ablutions upgrade• Creation of additional 'on-campus' educator accommodation• First Aid facility• New basketball / tennis complex• Retainer walls and extension of soccer and cricket fields• New tartan run-ups and sandpits for triple and long jump• Renovation of Association office (specifically funded by the Old Boys Association)• New educator car park including carports and tarring of surface• Gymnasium equipment• Ongoing re-turfing of fields (high use of fields by Prep and High schools impacts significantly onwear and tear)• New computer laboratories and staffroomWe are extremely fortunate to have a wider King Edward family that consistently contributes in variousways for the ongoing enhancement and wellbeing of our School – we thank you accordingly.Yours sincerelyMike FennellHeadmaster
