Agrotourism<br />

<strong>Chiang</strong> <strong>Rai</strong> Horticultural Research Centre (ศูนย�วิจัยพืชสวนเชียงราย)<br />

is located in Pa Ko Village on Highway 1211 (Den Ha - Dong Mada<br />

Route), 6.5 km from town. Visitors can see beds <strong>of</strong> decorative<br />

flowers; such as, Patumma or Siam tulip (Curcuma), Krachiao<br />

(Curcuma), rose, chrysanthemum, gladiolus, lily, etc., vegetables;<br />

such as, cabbage, green bean, garden pea, etc., and a herbal garden,<br />

on an area <strong>of</strong> more than 2,000 rai. In addition, there is a giant lake<br />

which is habitat to various species <strong>of</strong> waterfowl, especially duck. The<br />

centre is open daily from 8.00 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. Houses, tents, and<br />

restaurants are available for visitors. Fresh agricultural produce and<br />

Wawi Highland Agricultural Experiment Station (<strong>Chiang</strong> <strong>Rai</strong><br />

(Wawi) Service Centre for Crops and Production Resources) (สถานี<br />

ทดลองเกษตรที่สูงดอยวาวี)<br />

is located in Mu 3, Ban Doi Chang, Amphoe<br />

Mae Suai. It was established in 1985 with the cooperation from the<br />

Horticultural Research Institute, Department <strong>of</strong> Agriculture, and the<br />

Thai-German Highland Development Programme. With the location<br />

at about 1,500 m above sea level, the weather here is cool all year<br />

round; the average temperature is 18-19 degrees Celsius. The area is<br />

used for research and experiments <strong>of</strong> growing plants on highland<br />

soil, including macadamia, tea, Arabica c<strong>of</strong>fee, fruit trees,<br />

persimmon, peach, chestnut, temperate vegetables and flowers,<br />

tulip, etc. Among the interesting places is the Garden <strong>of</strong> Fragrant<br />

Flowers in Honour <strong>of</strong> Her Majesty the Queen. There are also<br />

viewpoints for seeing a sea <strong>of</strong> mist and impressive sunrise and<br />

sunset. The station has provided houses, restaurants, and a campsite<br />

is located in Amphoe Thoeng. It promotes<br />

the growing <strong>of</strong> temperate flowers; such as, tulip, lily, red salvia, red<br />
