Joie Springer directs UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme, an initiative geared<br />
to raising awareness of the urgent need to preserve analogue and digital documentary<br />
heritage. The programme’s register currently lists 193 items from different countries<br />
around the world.<br />
Ms. Springer is also the UNESCO Project Coordinator for the World Digital Library, which aims<br />
to promote international and intercultural understanding and awareness, increase the<br />
volume of multilingual and culturally diverse content on the internet, provide resources for<br />
educators and contribute to academic research.<br />
hillAry wiesner<br />
Hillary Wiesner directs the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s Islam Initiative, a foundation<br />
programme that aims to enhance the American public’s understanding of the diversity of<br />
Muslim societies, cultures and thought. The programme chiefly works with universities and<br />
also supports projects of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the USA’s National Endowment<br />
for the Humanities. Ms. Wiesner holds a BA in religion from Harvard, an MA on the ancient<br />
Mediterranean world from the <strong>University</strong> of Chicago and a PhD from Harvard’s Committee on<br />
the Study of Religion.<br />
Colin williAms<br />
Colin Williams is a research professor at the School of Welsh, <strong>Cardiff</strong> <strong>University</strong>. His main<br />
academic interests are sociolinguistics and language policy in multicultural societies, and<br />
ethnic and minority relations. He has previously taught in universities in Canada, England<br />
and the USA. Between 2000 and 2010, he served as a member of the Welsh Language Board<br />
(WLB), a position to which he was appointed by the National Assembly for Wales. Since<br />
April 2010 he has been an adviser to the WLB, concentrating on international aspects of<br />
language policy and intergovernmental relations.<br />
GustAvo win<br />
Gustavo Win, a Uruguayan-born American radio and television journalist, has been involved<br />
in international broadcasting with Voice of America since 1984.<br />
He has full oversight responsibility for different international training projects in the area<br />
of health journalism. He recently created and implemented health journalism workshops<br />
in Senegal, Kenya, India, Argentina and Panama. He is also responsible for developing and<br />
implementing workshops on ethics in journalism in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, El Salvador,<br />
and Uruguay.<br />
