www.angusfire.co.ukPetroseal 6Petroseal 6 is a superior quality Film-Forming FluoroProtein (FFFP) firefighting foam concentrate forextinguishing and securingflammable hydrocarbon liquid fires. Its unique formulation is based onadvanced protein foam technology. The protein base material provides atough cohesive foam blanket withhigh resistance to heat that providesthe same post-fire security as a topquality FluoroProtein (FP).Fluorochemical surface active agentscombined with the protein baseproduce a vapour-sealing aqueousfilm that provides the same fastcontrol and extinguishment as a topquality synthetic AFFF.• Film-forming for fast flameknockdown and extinguishment.• Stable and long-lasting foamblanket for excellent burnbackresistance and post-fire security.• Detergent-free for high resistanceto fuel pick-up.• Foam blanket re-seals whenruptured by personnel orequipment.• Reduced stocks, low cost storage, long shelf-life, and low usagelevels combine to providemaximum cost-effectiveness.ENVIRONMENTPetroseal 6 is readily biodegradableand virtually non-toxic to aquaticorganisms. It is based on a naturalprotein foaming agent and containsno harmful synthetic detergent orglycol ether.APPLICATIONSPetroseal 6 is the ideal fire fightingfoam to use in high risk situationswhere hydrocarbon (such as aviationkerosene, crude oil, gasoline, anddiesel fuel) are stored, processed, ortransported. It is used extensively onRapid Intervention Vehicles at majorinternational airports and militarybases where fast extinguishment andpost-fire security with limitedquantities of foam concentrate areessential. Other typical applicationsinclude hydrocarbon storage tanks, process areas, road/rail loading racks, marine terminals, and offshoreplatforms.Petroseal 6 also provides a vapoursuppressingfoam blanket onunignited hydrocarbon spills. Itsdetergent-free formulation ensuresthat it does not exhibit the wickingaction associated with somesynthetic AFFFs when applied usingnon-aspirating foam equipment.PERFORMANCEThe fire performance of Petroseal 6is measured primarily againstUnderwriters Laboratories StandardUL 162 (7th Edition). It has alsodemonstrated outstandingperformance in fire tests carried outby independent fire authoritiesworldwide.APPROVALS AND UL LISTINGSPetroseal 6 has numerous approvalsand UL Listings.EQUIPMENTPetroseal 6 is intended for use at 6%(6 parts concentrate to 94 parts ofwater).Petroseal 6 is readily proportionedusing conventional foamproportioning equipment such asportable and fixed (in-line) foamventuri proportioners, handlinenozzles/branchpipes with pick-uptubes, balanced pressure variableflow proportioners, balancedpressure bladder tank proportioners, and around-the-pump proportioners.Petroseal 6 can be used with airaspirating discharge devices such aslow expansion branchpipes, monitors, top pourer sets, rimsealfoam pourers, and foam/watersprinklers.As with any foam Petroseal 6 is bestapplied gently on to the burningliquid surface. However, theexceptional resistance to fuelcontamination of FFFP enables it towithstand vigorous mixing with fuel(this is recognised by NFPA 11(1994),Section 1.4, page 6). This makes itideal for forceful application on tostorage tank fires from groundbasedmobile monitors or throughbase (sub-surface) injection systems.Petroseal 6 also produces top qualitymedium expansion foam whenapplied through medium expansionbranchpipes and bund pourers.Petroseal 6 can be used with nonaspiratingdischarge devices such asspray/fog branchpipes and nozzles, monitors, and spray/fog sprinklers.Non-aspirated application is notrecommended as the primarymethod of attack for major fireswhere the security of a stable foamcover is essential.COMPATIBILITYPetroseal 6 is suitable for use incombination with:• Soft or hard, fresh, brackish or seawater.•Dry powder extinguishing agentseither separately or as twin agentsystems.• Expanded protein-based orsynthetic foams for application toa fire in sequence orsimultaneously.ref: 5158/2/7.04 page: 1 of 2ICAOLevel BNATO
