JOIN THE FCA SOUTHWEST REGIONFOR A VERY SPECIAL WEEKEND18PARAMOUNT RANCHDRIVING TOURSATURDAY, MAY 28, 2005Experience the Wild WestSaddle up and visit the historic wild west <strong>of</strong>Hollywood and sportscar racing in SouthernCalifornia.In 1927, Paramount Pictures purchased2,400 acres <strong>of</strong> the old Rancho Las Virgenes foruse as a “movie ranch.” For 25 years, a veritablewho’s who <strong>of</strong> Hollywood practiced their craft atParamount Ranch.Paramount Ranch found renewed life as afilm location when William Hertz bought thesoutheast portion in 1953. An ardent fan <strong>of</strong>movie westerns, he built a permanent westerntown utilizing Paramount Pictures’ old propstorage sheds. Soon television companies beganproducing westerns such as The Cisco Kid andDick Powell’s Zane Grey Theatre at the ranch.Hertz sold the property in 1955, and theParamount Racetrack openedat the site a year later. It wasregarded as one <strong>of</strong> the mostchallenging tracks in theU.S. Several fatal accidentsduring the first year <strong>of</strong>operation led to itsclosure as a racingvenue. The site,however, continuedto be used for filming,and has been featured in morethan 100 films including The Devil’s Hairpin(1957).The Ranch is now operated by the NationalPark Service.Our Tour will begin near Century Cityand it will take us through places that evokevisions <strong>of</strong> elegance, style, fun and sun. Wewill drive through Beverly Hills, cruise alongPacific Coast Highway through Malibu andmotor along Mulholland Highway throughthe Santa Monica Mountains.
