Specific responsibilities <strong>of</strong> CACs relating_____________________________________to child sexual abuse cases include:• Provide a single, child-friendly location where all services provided to childrenduring <strong>the</strong> investigation process can be <strong>of</strong>fered;• Provide a location, including a child friendly room, one-way mirror and recordingcapability, <strong>for</strong> law en<strong>for</strong>cement and DCBS staff who conduct interviews withchildren alleged to have been sexually abused;• Selected CACs also provide <strong>for</strong>ensic interview services defined as a structuredinterview with a child <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> facilitating a criminal investigation.These <strong>for</strong>ensic interviews are provided by masters level mental healthpr<strong>of</strong>essionals with special expertise in <strong>for</strong>ensic interviews;• Provide comprehensive medical examinations and mental health screenings <strong>for</strong> achild to assess <strong>the</strong> child's physical well being and to document any evidence <strong>of</strong>sexual or o<strong>the</strong>r abuse. Medical examinations provided by CACs are provided inaccordance with 907 KAR 3:160, by a licensed physician with pediatricexperience and expertise in <strong>the</strong> evaluation and treatment <strong>of</strong> child abuse. Medicalexamination services may be provided by a sexual assault nurse examinercertified in accordance with KRS Chapter 314:011, if <strong>the</strong> child is fourteen yearsor older;• Provide advocacy services to assist child victims and <strong>the</strong>ir non-<strong>of</strong>fendingcaregivers which may include: accompaniment to court, case management,in<strong>for</strong>mation and referral services;• Provide counseling services which may include: crisis telephone line andsupport-group services;• Provide clinical services which may include: mental health screening, mentalhealth evaluation, individual <strong>the</strong>rapy services <strong>for</strong> children and non-<strong>of</strong>fendingcaretakers and families;• Provide group <strong>the</strong>rapy services <strong>for</strong> children and non-<strong>of</strong>fending caretakers;• Provide a centralized location <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> multidisciplinary team to meet, a locationthat ensures that <strong>the</strong> privacy interests <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> child will be protected during <strong>the</strong>team review process;• Participate in multidisciplinary team meeting in <strong>the</strong> counties that <strong>the</strong> regionalCAC serves;• Provide staffing to local multidisciplinary teams, to <strong>the</strong> extent possible;• Provide consultation and educational services;• Provide technical assistance and consultation resources to criminal justice andhuman service pr<strong>of</strong>essionals in <strong>the</strong> region in which <strong>the</strong> center is located.Mental Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essionalsMental health pr<strong>of</strong>essionals may include psychologists licensed or certified pursuant toKRS 319; social workers who are certified or licensed pursuant to KRS 335; physicians16
