This language should provide local experts, survivorsand o<strong>the</strong>r stakeholders with an opportunity to review <strong>the</strong> model and streng<strong>the</strong>n itsimplementation by adapting it to local community systems and resources. Inaccordance with state law, <strong>the</strong> adapted model will <strong>the</strong>n be reviewed <strong>for</strong> appropriatenessby <strong>the</strong> Commission.This protocol addresses primary areas which should also be included in <strong>the</strong> protocols <strong>of</strong>local multidisciplinary teams, including delineated goals and objectives; a generaldescription <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> roles and responsibilities <strong>of</strong> each team member; a specification <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>operation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> local team, including <strong>the</strong> location and frequency <strong>of</strong> meetings; <strong>the</strong> issue<strong>of</strong> confidentiality; a description <strong>of</strong> training needs; procedures <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> investigation andreview <strong>of</strong> cases; and o<strong>the</strong>r key elements. In addition, a clearly stated mission drafted by<strong>the</strong> team should be part <strong>of</strong> every local protocol. This model protocol also <strong>of</strong>fersrecommendations and strategies <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> process <strong>of</strong> developing local teams.Importantly, <strong>the</strong>se functions include both <strong>the</strong> joint investigation <strong>of</strong> child sexual abusecases and <strong>the</strong> case review process <strong>for</strong> multidisciplinary teams. This protocol reflects amodel in which <strong>the</strong> team operates as an umbrella under which a variety <strong>of</strong> separatefunctions fall. The portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> protocol tailored to joint investigation directs <strong>the</strong>involvement in compliance with statute, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>for</strong> Community BasedServices and law en<strong>for</strong>cement. (See “Joint Investigation Function <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>Multidisciplinary</strong> Team”). Case review procedures involve all team members. (See“Case Review Function <strong>of</strong> <strong>Multidisciplinary</strong> Team”)8
