700 pages, Oct 2008
Iny Lorentz’s sales figures speak for themselves: her last novel The Bride of Fire made the
German bestseller list, and The Travelling Harlot, which introduced the character featured
here, has passed the million-copy mark.
The latest dramatic instalment of the million-selling
»Travelling Harlot« series
More than twelve years have passed since the previous adventures of the onetime »travelling
harlot« Marie. She and her husband Michel Adler still live in Kibitzstein Castle, but their patron
has died, and his successor Gottfried holds the two of them in low regard.
Marie and Michel’s oldest daughter Trudi has fallen in love with the young knight Georg
von Gressingen and is expecting that any day now he will come to ask her parents for her
hand.
Meanwhile, several knights attempt to form an alliance against the bishop of Würzburg. In
particular, the Roman prelate Cyprian is working at cross-purposes to Marie, Michel, and
their friends, and Cyprian has managed to get Trudi’s suitor Gressingen on his side.
Sabine Ebert’s first novel featuring Marthe the midwife sold over 300.000 copies. The author
lives in Saxony, where her novels are set.
Third in a series of meticulously researched historical novels
Magdeburg, 1179: The scene is the court of Emperor Frederick I, Barbarossa. At the Emperor’s
request, Dietrich of Landsberg challenges Henry the Lion of Brunswick to a duel. This
sets off a war that threatens to overrun the village of Christiansdorf, where Marthe the midwife
and her husband Christian live.
Christian’s liege, Otto von Meißen, chooses Christian to help lead his troops in the siege of
Haldensleben, which proves to be a fiasco that claims many lives.
Meanwhile, Marthe is faced with a challenge of her own. Otto has given his power-mad
oldest son Albrecht command over Christiansdorf Castle. Albrecht has a grudge against
Marthe, too, but she has decided to stay and protect the villagers rather than go into hiding.
The climax comes at the legendary Diet of Mainz of 1184, a fateful time both for the politics
of the area and for the two lovers.
Tanja Kinkel’s books have been translated into more than a dozen languages to date.
In the mysterious land of Egypt: a woman torn between two men
England, 1805: Sarah’s dream has come true: she is marrying the Italian carnival strongman
Giovanni Battista Belzoni. Belzoni is opening the door to a whole new world … but he keeps
a tight grasp on the key.
The couple journeys to Egypt where they meet the French consul, Bernardino Drovetti. He’s
known for helping foreigners, even though most of them despise this fervent Napoleon supporter.
From the very beginning, there’s a rivalry between Belzoni and Drovetti, not least because
Drovetti makes no bones about the fact that he’s interested in Sarah.
Sarah tries to explore this strange new world, but she runs up against the barriers that are
set for women. She realizes that this is just as confining as England was.
Sarah has to decide what’s more important to her: relying on the security offered by an egomaniac
who keeps changing for the worse, or giving in to the desires of his greatest
Tanja Kinkel’s books have been translated into more than a dozen languages to date. Her
novels have settings as varied as the founding of Rome and America in the 21 st century.
Historical novel of the Middle Ages about the famous
Walther von der Vogelweide
A great singer, a spy, a rogue with brains, courage, and heart: in the late 12 th century, a boy
from a dirt-poor background begins his unstoppable rise to become a celebrated troubadour
whom the influential rulers fight over, despite the fact (or perhaps because of of the fact) that
his lyrics break with the usual chaste tradition. What none of his patrons suspect: Walther
von der Vogelweide serves only one master, namely himself. He expertly gathers information,
manipulates and schemes. But a secretive adversary has been getting in his way more and
more, a woman who is as beautiful as she is dangerously clever …
Walther von der Vogelweide has been the subject of about 100 biographies and perhaps 400
volumes of verse, but no novel has successfully captured this remarkable character until now.
Carla Federico is a young Austrian author who now lives in Germany and works as a TV reporter.
Her great passion for travel took her to many different countries before she »stuck
around« for a longer stay in Chile, the country where her novel takes place.
A novel with two complex female heroines
Emilia, daughter of German immigrants, was raised in Chile. When she discovers a dark family
secret, her life is turned upside down, and she flees the country. She’s strong-willed and
inventive, and starts a new life in a foreign land. She thinks she’s happiest when she deadens
all emotions. But in stormy Patagonia she meets Arthur, a German and the great love of her
life.
Emilia’s loyal companion is Rita, who is half-white, half-Mapuche. When there’s violence between
that indigenous people and the Chileans, Rita loses her whole family in traumatic circumstances.
From then on Rita denies her heritage, and does everything to be regarded as
Chilean, but she pays dearly for it. Finally she confronts her past and her true identity and
finds her calling by helping to protect the culture of her ancestors.
Love story set in exotic Chile, follow-up to 200,000-copy sellers
Aurelia has grown up in Patagonia and led a sheltered life. While her three younger brothers
are busy working on the family sheep farm, Aurelia’s love is for drawing. She’s accepted at
the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Santiago, but before she can lose herself in her art she finds love
in the form of the banker’s son Tiago, who woos her, marries her, and enables her ascent into
the Chilean upper class. But she’s deeply uneasy about being part Mapuche. She keeps it
secret from her in-laws, not so much because she’s ashamed of it, but because it would keep
her from the life of luxury that she’s been seduced by. Her friend Victoria accompanies her to
Santiago – she’s more of a rebel who has embraced the cause of women’s rights and doesn’t
mind making enemies. She finds love there too, but it lets her down …
There are plenty of suspects: Elisabeth’s autistic brother Bruno, her older brother Heiner, her
mother, and her father, who seems to have had more than just fatherly feelings toward Elisabeth.
There’s also a jealous pregnant woman named Sina who was Elisabeth’s best friend
and her only heir …
A friend of Elisabeth’s is found murdered, along with the remains of Elisabeth’s baby, which
had been cut out of her belly as she lay dead. And then the detective finds out that all of the
villagers journey to the gorge every year at the first snowfall …
Petra Busch’s debut novel Hush, My Child was the surprise hit of 2010. It was published with
a modest print run of 6,500 copies, but word-of-mouth made it a hit and Knaur has had to
print 20,000 more and counting to meet demand.
Psychological mystery: A follow-up to the surprise hit of 2010
Miriam has given up her life savings, her job as a teacher, and her nice apartment, but she’s
happy: her mother Thea, who was in a coma for years, is not dead, but has returned to live
with her in her tiny new apartment. The mother can’t remember the daughter, but Miriam
firmly believes that she will be fully healthy again and will stay with her forever. That’s what
the voices she hears are telling her, the voices that she trusts unconditionally. And that’s why
she can’t permit her mother to begin making new contacts in the area. She has to repel the
intruders who want to take Thea away from her.
What Miriam’s schizophrenic delusions don’t let her see: her mother is dead, and Thea isn’t
her mother, but a woman who’s fleeing an abusive husband. Her real name is Sonja Paschek,
and she has opportunistically used her putative amnesia to find a secure spot with Miriam.
So both women are victim and perpetrator in one.
Judith Merchant’s short story »Monopoly« was nominated for the Kärnten Mystery Prize in
2008, born 1976, and this same story won the Friedrich Glauser Award in 2009. In 2011 she
was awarded the Glauser Award for another short thriller. This novel is the author’s first.
The suspenseful start to a new series
Jan Seidel’s wedding was called off, and the 30-year-old chief inspector is temporarily rooming
with his grandmother, a sprightly and extremely stubborn old lady. So he immerses himself
in work, namely investigating the case of a woman’s corpse that was found mutilated in
a cave below Dragon’s Rock, near Bonn. His colleague Elena Vogt is not particularly helpful
when it comes to his investigation, and worse still, his grandmother decides to make some
investigations of her own. Meanwhile, we meet two teenagers – the mother of one turns out
to be the murder victim, and the other one’s mother has gone missing. Then there’s more
trouble for Seidel when the teens go missing as well …
Andreas Föhr, born 1958, is a lawyer by training who began writing for television in 1991.
Since then he has written scripts for all of Germany’s best-known detective series. The author
lives near Munich.
A Bavarian mystery: dry humor, stubborn investigators, and a strong plot
A harmless car race between Police Sergeant Kreuthner and his old buddy Raubert ends with
the discovery of a woman’s corpse, lying in a bizarre position in the trunk of Raubert’s car.
The investigation leads back 16 years to the onetime au pair girl Sofia, who obviously plays a
key role in the murder case.
Sofia had lived with the family of the well-known actress Katharina Millruth. Back then the
Millruths’ six-year-old daughter unwittingly caused a car accident that disfigured the face of
a would-be actress named Hanna Lohwerk. And it’s Lohwerk’s corpse that was just found in
Raubert’s trunk.
Alex Berg is the pseudonym of a female thriller writer in northern Germany who has begun a
series revolving around the characters Eric Mayer and Valerie Weymann.
Action thriller with the topical theme of traumatized war veterans
A Hamburg-based armaments manufacturer is suspected of illegal weapons trafficking. The
government assigns the investigation to agent Eric Mayer, an Afghanistan specialist. The
company hires Valerie Weymann’s law firm to conduct the internal investigation and also to
keep the press at arm’s length.
Meanwhile, the traumatized soldier Katja Rittmer, one of the first women to see combat
action in Afghanistan, comes back home. Her convoy was attacked and her comrades were
shot … with German ammunition. How could this happen? But back home nobody wants to
answer her explosive question. She soon finds out that the weapons company being investigated
has ties to the Taliban. Eric Mayer heads for Afghanistan but is soon accused of having
his own ties to the weapons firm. Katja knows Eric and believes he’s innocent, but as a soldier
who’s been trained to kill, she’s a ticking time bomb, and her solution is a violent one …
reporter for a youth magazine (it ceased publication). Now she’s a freelance journalist who
writes for Stern, Max, and other German glossies.
A mystery set in a rough part of Hamburg, with plenty of local color
Hamburg in November: The rain is an icecold, evil drizzle. Chastity Riley has had a cough for
weeks, but she still needs to go to work. The theme of her third case is the unscrupulous
renovation of her beloved city, or to be precise, the Scandinavian real estate tycoons who are
investing in South Hamburg in deadly fashion.
It begins when a couple is found murdered. At first it’s thought to be a hate crime, but then
investigators hear from an investor who wanted to buy the building where the couple lived.
But the city allowed a Danish firm to buy it for a much lower price. And the murdered husband
and wife were the last living tenants.
Chastity’s on the case, but so is Faller, a private eye who’s an ex-cop and is really getting on
her nerves …
Once they move out of their apartment, Gesine heads for Normandy to their vacation home
Sandra Melli is the pseudonym of a wellknown husband-and-wife author team that has been
writing very successful historical novels for several years. However, the duo got its start writing
short stories for fantasy anthologies for major publishers, and it now returns to that
genre.
Fantasy: A completely new world with its own mythology
More than a millennium ago, a battle raged between the six gods of the world. Before the
battle was ended and the world was cleft into two parts, a powerful artifact called the goddess’s
star was lost. Now, a thousand years later, the agents of the old gods again seek that
powerful item, because owning it can make the difference between victory and defeat.
The young cat girl Laisa is sent by the goddess Irisea to find the artifact and to protect it.
Laisa learns the story of the six gods and the enmity between colors. Also that a certain people
is marked by a certain color (cat people are usually blue, for instance) but there are exceptions
like Laisa, who though a cat girl, is permeated by the color white. But powerful
forces work against Laisa and her friends, and a race against time begins …
Thomas Thiemeyer has earned comparisons to Michael Crichton and the Douglas Preston /
Lincoln Child team. His previous novels include Medusa, Magma, and The Sky Disc of Nebra.
This is his first young adult novel for PAN.
Mark. Juna weiß, dass David keine
Chance hat zu überleben – doch im Innersten
erkennt sie zutiefst überrascht,
dass dieser Junge anders ist. In einem
Strudel verbotener Gefühle trifft sie
eine schwerwiegende Entscheidung …
A post-apocalyptic love story, for girls (and boys) 14-and-up
The end is near for mankind. There were warning signs, but no one paid attention: about two
generations ago, a mutated virus led to men and women becoming bitter enemies. While men
dwell in the ruins of the old cities, women have set up a simple life in the country. The ruins
of Cologne, Germany, and its blackened Cathedral are the seat of government, home to a
hateful inquisitor who rules the men and has declared the women to be witches.
13.04.2011 13:25:47 Uhr
While men control the weapons, vehicles, and fuel depots, they can’t find enough food in the
contaminated cities, so they go get some from time to time in the women’s villages. On these
occasions the nubile women present themselves to the men in what they call a »circle of
shame« and thus ensure that now and then children are born.
On one of these occasions, 17-year-old Juna, daughter of the high priestess, gets a look at the
19-year-old monk David …
Lynn Raven lived in New-England, USA, before she came to Germany for several years. She
writes both urban and high fantasy. The author is well known for her popular all-age-novels
Kiss of the Demon, Heart of the Demon and Blood of the Demon.
High-romantic love story between a young witch and a magician
In the life of the doctor Ella Thorens there is nothing much besides her profession. Since her
mother died, Ella keeps her heart carefully locked up. She does not suspect that her mother
has left her a particular inheritance, until one evening she becomes witness of a terrible
crime: A group of disguised figures beat up a man. When she touches the injured man, she
feels a new power running through her, for Christian Havreux is a magical being and powerful
warlock, who got under the thumb of a demon princess.
Unexpectedly, Ella has got involved in a war between demons from the twilight zone and the
witches and wizards of our world. At the moment when Ella touched Christian after the attack,
he felt the amazing maelstrom of her gift. Together with her he could break the power
of the demon princess. The only problem is that Ella has to help him voluntarily. In order to
achieve this she shall fall in love with him.
Lilly Lindner was born in 1985 in Berlin. She began writing at an early age and previously
wrote a novel, Shattered which was published in 2008.
Dutch rights sold to Meulenhoff Boekerij
A moving, powerful memoir by a child abuse survivor
Lilly Lindner is six years old when a neighbor molests her for the first time
The man ends up moving away, but Lilly’s life has long since been thrown off course. She cuts
herself off from others and behaves differently from other children. She falls victim to eating
disorders. Her parents can’t handle this »difficult« child. At 17 she moves into her own apartment,
but her life is still in shambles. She only weighs 80 pounds and knows she’ll die if she
keeps starving herself.
Finally she begins to work in a high-class brothel in Berlin – since her body is no longer her
own anyway, why not use it to make money? And so the tender young woman, who’s wellspoken,
intelligent and sensitive, becomes a sought-after whore. However, here of all places
is where Lilly slowly finds herself again, and writes an impressive, provocative book with
great narrative power.
Urmila Chaudhary, born 1989, is from the Tharu tribe and thus one of the poorest in Nepal.
She was set free in 2007. In addition to being leader of her anti-slavery movement, she is finally
fulfilling her dream and getting a school education.
Dutch rights sold to Uitgeverij de Boekerij;
Russian rights sold to Family Leisure Club (Bertelsmann, Ukraine)
The moving story of a Nepalese girl
Urmila is six years old when she meets the fate of all girls of the Tharu, a Nepalese tribe: she
is sold as a Kamalari – a slave girl – and has to spend the next 12 years serving well-to-do
families in the capital city Katmandu.
This centuries-old practice continues in the present day, despite the fact that human bondage
is against the law in Nepal. It continues because the parents of the tribe are so poor:
Urmilas parents sold her for just 40 euros per year. She was forced to work 17 hours a day.
She was humiliated, ordered around, got scraps to eat, was never allowed to go to school.
At 18, Urmila regains her freedom and becomes the great hope of all the Kamalari. She resolves
to fight this injustice until the last Kamalari has been freed.
Bettina Landgrafe, born 1976, came to Africa for the first time ten years ago. Originally a
pediatric nurse, she founded the organization »Madamfo Ghana« in 2007. She spends about
six months of every year in Ghana.
Bettina Landgrafe, geboren 1976, kam vor
zehn Jahren zum ersten Mal nach Afrika.
2007 gründete die gelernte und examinierte
Kinderkrankenschwester den Verein
Madamfo Ghana. Zunächst arbeitete sie
die Hälfte des Jahres in Deutschland und
verbrachte die restliche Zeit in Ghana. Seit
2010 widmet sie sich hauptsächlich ihrem
The moving and inspirational story of a modern-day heroine
It was supposed to be a one-time trip, but when Bettina Landgrafe, a pediatric nurse, traveled
to Ghana ten years ago, she didn’t imagine that this experience would transform her life.
The conditions there were shocking: no pharmaceuticals, no clean drinking water, and hardly
anything to eat. She saw the suffering, the hunger, and the poverty, as well as the fate of
own painful childhood without parents to take care of her. Her mother was alcoholic and she
never knew her father.
The situation in Ghana was something she couldn’t let go of, and she founded a society that
frees children from slavery, builds schools and hospitals, and gives the poorest of the poor
what they need to survive. It’s the fascinating story of an impressive woman.
NICOLE MTAWA
German Nicole Mtawa first experienced poverty on a trip to India. She later chose to journey
to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, in hopes that she could make a difference there. As documented
in her previous book for Knaur, Stealing the Stars: Our Life on the Streets of Africa, she married
the Tanzanian street urchin Juma.
A young woman’s mission to help the poor of India
Nicole Mtawa founds the organization Human Dreams to raise money for her next big project:
a home for gravely ill children in New Delhi. When she traveled to India years ago, she
was shocked to see that children with infirmities or incurable diseases were left to vegetate.
Even though she’s now a married woman who loves her husband more than anything, she
still wants to be there for the poorest of the poor who have nobody else to take care of them.
Gisela Heidenreich was born in a Lebensbornheim in Norway, an institution set up by Hitler’s
Germany for unmarried women who were pregnant with the children of SS men. Her bestselling
book The Neverending Year was the chronicle of that chapter of her life.
The painful search for the Nazi diplomat whom the author’s mother loved
He was the great love of her mother’s life. He was accused of the murders of 350,000 people.
He was a key cog in the Nazi murder machine. He was a Jew hunter »by profession«. Bestselling
author Gisela Heidenreich goes searching for the career Nazi diplomat Horst Wagner,
who almost became her new father, who fled to South America with her mother’s help, who
was able to escape justice for decades with the help of his old comrades. The life story of a
perfectly normal German man of the 20 th century. Career-minded, a Jew-hater, a coward.
He was a protégé of Von Ribbentrop. Soon Wagner became Heinrich Himmler’s liaison in the
Foreign Office.
Originally slated to be tried at Nuremberg, he ended up only being interrogated as a witness
because there were so many defendants. The Nuremberg prison is where he met and fell in
love with the author’s mother.
Katrin Behr was born in Gera in 1967. She currently lives in Berlin. Author Peter Hartl is also
a screenwriter who for 20 years has worked on the historical documentaries done by ZDF
television.
eigenen Geschichte befasst, in Archive
wollten. Manche suchen noch heute nach
ihren wahren Familien.
Und Katrin Behr hilft ihnen dabei:
Denn sie arbeitet heute in einem Verein,
der zu DDR-Zeiten zwangsadoptierte
Kinder wieder mit ihren Angehörigen
zusammenbringt.
True story that shows the inhumanity of the East German government
East Germany, 1972: Katrin was four when the secret police (known as the Stasi) came to take
her mother away. The men took the family to the town square and ordered the mother to get
into a car.. Katrin was put into a home. She was placed with one foster family after another but
kept running away. Katrin’s last foster family, loyal party members, ends up adopting her.
Not until Katrin is an adult, after East Germany has collapsed, is she able to track down her
mother, who by this time is a broken woman. The regime had dubbed her »politically unreli-
able« and »antisocial«, and the many years in jail have left a mark. The old closeness between
mother and child is gone forever, and Katrin’s persistent search for her mother has
shaken her relationship with her adoptive family,
Today Katrin is the head of a society that helps others who were forced into adoption to find
their original families.
The story of surviving a concentration camp
is just one part of this amazing life – revised edition
Fifteen thousand children were deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, and only
130 survived. Six-year-old Raphael Sommer was one of them. He survived thanks to his
mother, the pianist Alice Herz-Sommer.
Yet this book is much more than a holocaust story: it’s the wonderful life story of the author,
who was born in Prague in 1903. It was the Prague of Franz Kafka, who was like a brother to
Alice. In 1943, Alice, her husband, and her little son were sent to Theresienstadt. Alice’s husband
was sent on to Dachau and died there, but Alice and Raphael miraculously avoided
transport to Auschwitz. Alice survived thanks to her musical talent: she even played Chopin
for the prisoners.
Giora Feidman, born 1936 in Buenos Aires, is from a family of musicians. He emigrated to
Israel in 1957 and was a member of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra for 18 years. In the
early 1970s he began his solo career as a klezmer performer. Feidman has been married to
the composer Ora Bat-Chaim since 1975.
The musician’s long-awaited autobiography
He grew up in Buenos Aires, he lived in Israel for a long time, and for decades he’s been a
citizen of the world: Giora Feidman, the man whose clarinet entrances audiences in all of the
great concert halls of the world and who has played with Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein
and Astor Piazzolla. The man who became famous for his scores for »Schindler’s List«
and the German film »Jenseits der Stille«. The man who has revitalized klezmer, the traditional
Jewish music. The man who has crossed national, religious and musical borders as if
this were the most natural thing in the world, and who is firmly convinced that music has only
one mission: to be in service of freedom, understanding, and reconciliation. On the occasion
of his 75 th birthday in March 2011, he presents his autobiography – a deeply spiritual account
of his life.
Hamed Abdel-Samad, born 1972 in Cairo, is one of the most accomplished Islamic intellectuals
of the younger generation. His autobiography My Goodbye to Heaven caused an international
sensation. The author lives in Munich.
As Arab dictatorships fall, Europe must not bury its head in the sand!
Hamed Abdel-Samad was in Cairo during the uprising. Now he provides firsthand information
on the causes of the Arab revolution – which is being carried out by the Facebook generation
– and where it might go from here.
His prognosis is alarming, yet it also gives us hope, because the West can help decide whether
a chance at a flourishing cooperation of East and West will grow out of the fall of Arab
dictatorships, or whether civil war and a collapsing economy will force millions of young
people northward, where they would threaten to overrun the aging societies of Europe. Abdel-Samad’s
message is clear: the West has to become involved in both an economical and a
political sense to give these people in their homelands hope for the future. Then everyone will
benefit from the largest political shake-up the world has seen since the fall of the Iron Curtain.
Gesellschaftsbild ableiten. Ungeheure
kreative und geistige Ressourcen können deshalb
nicht genutzt werden.
Die politische, wirtschaftliche und soziale Misere
der Staaten wird konsequent als Ergebnis
»der feindlichen Politik des Westens« gedeutet.
Jeder Versuch der Veränderung wird von der
islamischen Orthodoxie und der Machtbesessenheit
der Herrschenden erstickt. Bildungssystem
und Religion beschränken sich darauf, zu Gehorsam
gegenüber den Regimes zu erziehen.
A provocative book by an astute Islamic intellectual
The Islamic countries are unified by a religion from which they derive a problematic picture
of people and society: women are absolutely excluded, as are all men who don’t come from
the ruling class of society. Incredible intellectual resources can’t be taken advantage of. The
prosperity of these countries is deteriorating. This misery is interpreted as the result of the
»hostile« politics of »the West«.
Die Perspektiven für die Länder von
Marokko bis Indonesien sind bedrohlich,
da eine innovationsfeindliche Kultur, eine rapide
wachsende, arme Bevölkerung, zur Neige
gehende Erdölvorkommen und dramatische
klimatische Veränderungen ein hochexplosives
Gemisch ergeben.
The combination of an anti-innovation culture, a fast-growing yet poor and oppressed population,
oil deposits that are drying up and climatic problems results in an explosive mixture.
29.07.2010 10:39:58 Uhr
Hamed Abdel-Samad dares to offer a tough, compelling prognosis for the future of the culture
he himself comes from: the Islamic nations will collapse, and Islam will decline, both as
a political and social idea and as a culture.
Dr. Felix Prinz zu Löwenstein received his doctorate in 1982 and then spent three years doing
volunteer work in Haiti. When he returned home he took over the property that his family
has owned for 500 years and converted the farm to organic principles. He is the head of
several organizations that promote organic farming.
»We’ll feed ourselves organically or not at all«, the author says
Powerful international agricultural and chemical firms are changing food production worldwide.
Everywhere, genetic manipulation of seeds is being pushed, as is industrial farming
using pesticides and chemical fertilizers. This is accompanied by a media campaign that uses
what appears to be a winning argument: »Organic food is a luxury for the rich! But to feed 9
billion people we need massive production increases using industrial farming«.
Löwenstein, the feisty leader of Germany’s organic farmers, exposes this argument. »This
argument is false. We’ll either feed ourselves organically or not at all. Industrial agriculture
doesn’t fight hunger, it causes it. Corporations bear much of the responsibility for the destruction
of nature and the livelihoods of millions of farmers worldwide. And they make sure
that what’s being put on our plates keeps getting worse!«
Justyna Polanska is 31 years old and comes from Poland. She went to Germany to earn
money for the apprenticeship to become make-up artist and has been working as a cleaning
lady since. She knows the dirty secrets of the Germans and has written this book in order to
make crumble the clean front.
Funny, apt and merciless authentic – The Polish charlady Justyna sweeps
away hypocrisy and prejudices
She knows what it looks like under carpets, in the cupboards and under the beds of the Germans:
Justyna is a charlady and she is from Poland. Day after day she meets German thoroughness,
double standards and prejudices. In this book she relates what she experiences in
her everyday life as charlady.
Unsparingly honest and with heart and humour she holds a mirror up to us. Justyna is 31
years old and she left her home country several years ago. »All are slobs there. Young people
do not have a future«. she describes her country. That is why the intelligent and singleminded
woman came to Germany. She loves her job and she loves her new home-country. In
Poland she had never thought of what she would have to experience in German households.
Justyna has kept silent for a long time, but now she speaks her mind.
A handbook on how to be a jerk – everyone’s doing it!
People with manners go to Heaven, but boors go wherever they feel like! With this in mind,
Nina Puri has come up with the antidote to Emily Post, and it shows you how to misbehave
elegantly and with a friendly smile on your face.
Good behavior is out of fashion, and boors are all the rage. It seems that the worse you behave
the further you get in life. But how can you keep pace with all those offensive people?
That’s what this book teaches you: how to greet someone properly (properly rudely that is),
how to dress, table manners or the lack thereof, and what to do in traffic, on the Internet, in
your family, with that special someone, or at work (Suggested comment to try: »Hey, what
does the boss actually do all day? I never see the dude working.«) To sum up: you can act up,
but do it with a smile.
Werner Bartens’ best-known books are The Encyclopedia of Medical Errors and How Doctors
and Patients Keep Inventing New Illnesses, as well as The I-Hate-Doctors Book and The Happy
Body, which were also published by Droemer Knaur. Bartens is the medical editor of the newspaper
Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Many diets, therapies, and drugs don’t work: here’s what does
»You’ve got to change your life!« scream several hundred books each year. A gigantic industry
is based on making us feel bad, and it often succeeds in doing so. We try to change, but a
period of big plans is usually followed by a phase of big disappointments. After all, who really
manages to change his or her life? Bestselling author, doctor, and medical journalist
Werner Bartens knows how hard it is to flip that switch. And more importantly, he knows that
it usually isn’t necessary. Often very small changes in one’s behavior or even in the way you
look at yourself are enough to bring you happiness, satisfaction, and health. Bartens, using
100 wellresearched, everyday examples, shows what really works.
Petra Bock is one of the most important life-coaches in Germany. She has already written
several successful books. The last one was published by Knaur: 100 Questions Concerning
your Life. She captivates a huge audience as coach in TV and radio.
The first book dealing with self-sabotage, its causes,
backgrounds and effects
The successful coach Petra Bock deals with the phenomenon of intellectual self-sabotage.
The discovery of the existence and meaning of »mindfuck« follows directly from the long lasting
work of the author with persons searching for more success, meaning and fulfillment in
their lives. Petra Bock gives examples from real life, activates the self-awareness of the reader
and shows how one can deal with one’s mental activity efficiently.
With »mindfuck« we cause ourselves a lot of trouble. Moreover, we also bother others, because
we become passive, when we should be active, because we shut ourselves off, when we
should open up to a new situation.
In this unique book the reader learns how to break his own »mindfuck« and to replace it with
efficient thinking patterns.
Bernhard Moestl lives in Vienna and works as a guide for tours in Asia. He has got to know
the Shaolin monastery, where he spent many months studying the life of the monks. This
experience determined his life and led him to write his bestselling work: Shaolin – How to Win
without a Fight.
Bulgarian rights sold to Ciela Norma AD
Power and responsibility – 13 strategies for a responsible
consciousness of power
Lack of responsibility, gross negligence, disloyalty and narcissism are the outstanding characteristics
that usually come to mind when people think of executives. This leads to an increasingly
negative image of the so-called »powerful«. In order to rise to the top and to remain
there, those who want to be leaders or to take on responsibility, are obliged to abandon
the usual strategies of power and be prepared to follow new paths.
The reader will learn to understand how this new consciousness of power can function when
he decodes the 13 Seals of Power. Understanding them is rooted in the ancient Asiatic thought
pattern according to the motto: »Those who conquer others have power; those who overcome
themselves are strong.«
Hartwig Hausdorf is among the most well-known authors in the field of mysterious facts and
phenomena. So far his books have been translated into English, Japanese, Italian and Chinese.
His work, The Chinese Roswell made him a household name in the USA, where he is
listed in the reference book Who’s who in the World?
A gripping read for all those who are fascinated by the inexplicable.
Mysterious voices from the hereafter, ghost ships, weird prophecies: throughout history enigmatic
discoveries, unaccountable phenomema and numerous events and puzzles still remain
to be explained – the story of the man who rose from his grave, of a sea battle with a
monster octopus and of a werewolf wreaking havoc in a village.
One of the most well-known researchers into the unknown, the bestselling author Hartwig
Hausdorf, has searched out and compiled the most amazing stories, amog them »Lost in the
Bermuda Triangle«, »A Child sees its Grave« and »A 60-million-year-old Nail«.
Hartwig Hausdorf relates the stories of more than 111 spectacular
happenings and cases that boggle our powers of imagination
What happened to flight 19? What do the voices from the realm of the dead report? And what
about the prehistoric spark plug? Most people simply believe what they see – but what if the
things we see cannot be explained by our knowledge of the world?
Throughout history, mysterious discoveries und inexplicable occurrences have taken place,
and even in the enlightened twentieth century an abundance of riddles and phenomena still
remain to be solved. Hartwig Hausdorf, one of the best-known researchers into the unknown,
produces convincing evidence and casts light on the details of the 111 most spectacular
cases and secrets in the years between 1900 and 2010.
Ulli Olvedi is a graduated Qi-Gong teacher. She is also trained in breathing techniques, buddhistic
psychology and buddhistictantric energy work. She developed the »integral energy
work«, which she teaches in courses and workshops.
Buddhism wrapped up in a fascinating novel
Young Maili lives in a village close to the border between Nepal and Tibet. After her parents
had been murdered by robbers, she decided to become a nun. The family sends her to a convent
for exiled Tibetans on a mountain near Kathmandu.
In the beginning Maili is unhappy and frustrated, as she has to share a room with a nun that
is not popular in the nunnery. She begins to think more and more often about Sönam, a
young monk and is strongly tempted to indulge in daydreams.
A turning point in Maili’s life comes about when she is put into the care of Ani Nyima, a hermit
living in a cave on the mountain top. Ani leads her talented pupil to the Buddhist Tantra Path.
This training makes it possible for Maili to transform her feelings for Sönam into a spiritual
experience. She understands what her teacher tried to explain to her: that life is like a dream
from which the spirit can wake up. That is the »release«, the »enlightenment«, leading to the
Path of Buddha.
Luisa Xiaoyan Zhang, born in China in 1962, comes from a family that has for generations
been practising Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Following on her own TCM-studies she
came to Munich, where she opened up her own practice in the year 2000. She sees it as an
important task to create a link between Eastern tradition and Western research.
An introduction to acupuncture:
clear, well-founded and easily understood.
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese method in which needles are inserted into specific
points of a patient’s body in order to activate the body’s healing powers and stimulate the
organism to restore the body’s equilibrium.
The past years have shown that acupuncture has been more and more frequently accepted by
medical doctors; in many cases the costs are paid by the health insurance. Many kinds of
health problems and illnesses can be successfully treated by this ancient Chinese healing
method. Luisa Zhang, a Chinese nonmedical practitioner, describes with the aid of illustrations
and case histories the benefits and effects of acupuncture and how it achieves its results.
Lisa Freund is a socially engaged Buddhist who, as a voluntary worker, has been active in the
hospice movement for more than twenty years, accompanying many sick people on their last
journey. A student of Sogyal Rinpoche, she has developed her own seminar programme, according
to which she teaches in the whole of Germany.
Hidden forces: Achieving inner harmony in critical situations
We all of us suffer many little deaths in our lifetimes, are confronted with transience, separations
and changes. In order to achieve inner harmony in critical situations, we have to find
our way into our own sources of inner strength and discover what is invulnerable within us.
After many years of experience counselling people in borderline situations, Lisa Freund is
aware that each of us possesses an invulnerable core capable of opening up a source of
strength and showing us a bond that does not need to be created by our own efforts but has
always been present. This bonding must be allowed to take effect and become integrated
into our daily life.
The author combines scientific knowledge and practical support aided by inspiring exercises
from the Buddhistic tradition.
Sylvester Walch, PhD lives in Southern Bavaria, works in his own psychotherapy practice
and is a guest lecturer at various universities. He is in charge of training and further education
courses in psychotherapy, transpersonal psychology and holotropic breathing.
Plea for a new conception of mankind
This book describes every aspect of an interdenominational path to spiritual fulfilment. By
incorporating the findings of modern psychology and numerous practical meditation exercises
Sylvester Walch outlines the basics of a modern spiritual conception of mankind.
In his new book, the psychotherapist Sylvester Walch investigates which deeper layers are
to be found in human consciousness and why they are unjustly ignored by the general scientific
view. The author explores the sensitive levels of the human spirit and their inner wisdom.
He develops the full potential of spiritual transformation, pointing out what hinders its development
and makes use of many ordinary everyday reflections and brief meditations in order
to explain the whole spectrum of man’s inner being.
The author is active in South Germany and Austria, where he promotes his books in seminars
and lectures.
Stefan Limmer and Angela Dietrich are shamans and non-medical practitioners working
together in their joint practice in Hagelstadt . They pass on their knowledge of shaman healing
in workshops and training courses. The main area of their work is shaman healing
methods.
The curative approach described here will lead us
onto the shaman path to self-healing.
Shamanism takes it for granted that illness is a sign of disharmony between the individual
human being, nature and the cosmos. Shaman healing methods aim at rebuilding the equilibrium.
The authors offer encouragement, exercises and practical advice on what can be
done in the case of specific illnesses. An easily-learned shaman trance technique is fundamental
to this, as are grounding exercises and the appropriate use during rituals of certain
herbs, teas and healing stones.
The success of these healing methods has aroused ever more interest in shamanism among
people in the healing professions, who integrate their personal experiences in their work.
Dr. Anne Katharina Zschocke studied medicine and naturopathy in Freiburg and London.
She later took up ecology and horticulture. Since 2001 she has been teaching the practical
use of effective microorganisms and as a leading capacity in this field is internationally in
great demand as a speaker. www.dr.zschocke.de.
Why bacteria are useful, where and how they
can be applied in many areas of life.
This book, based on many years of study, presents all one needs to know about the latest
developments in the field of EM research.
Effective microorganisms are a special mixed culture of bacteria, based on the work of a
Japanese agronomist, who in the 1980s was the first to succeed in mixing together entirely
dissimilar strains of bacteria. From this mixture a great variety of bacteria has developed,
suitable for application in innumerable areas of everyday life.
Since this time they have been internationally put into successful use as a kind of »wonder
cure«. The practical application of EM is possible in almost every area of life, for example
household cleaning, removing mildew from walls, getting rid of smells of nicotine, dustbins
and the toilet.
Wighard Strehlow himself an alternative healer, is the leading authority in Germany on
Hildegard of Bingen. He lives in Allensbach at the Bodensee. Besides working in his surgery
he leads seminars and lectures. He has already written several books on Hildegard von Bingen’s
medicine.
Blood-letting – a serious therapy even today with many applicabilities
and therapeutic effects – rediscovered by the authority on Hildegard v.
Bingen medicine
Blood-letting had been a universal remedy and is one of the main therapeutic elements in the
medicine of Hildegard von Bingen. Scientific surveys worldwide show that blood-letting in
fact has a positive effect on health: both as prophylactic measure and as acute remedy for
already existing syndromes.
It deacidifies and detoxifies the body, it adjusts the hormone balance, strengthens the immune
system and the circulation. Moreover it stimulates the growing of all somatic cells. It is
a plea for rediscovering this ancient practice.
Wenn die Sonne explodiert –
der neue Thriller vom deutschen
Meister der Mystery
Thomas Thiemeyer, geboren 1963,
studierte Geografi e und Geologie in Köln Teufelsleib
und arbeitete zunächst als Illustrator. Seine
Gorillaforscherin Amy Walker hat Alpträume, seit ein
mystischen Wissenschaftsthriller Medusa,
neuen Afrika-Thriller
Korona recherchierte Thomas Thiemeyer
längere Zeit vor Ort in Uganda. Der Autor
lebt und arbeitet in Stuttgart.
Die Presse zu Nebra:
»So viel geballte und intelligente Unterhaltung
scheint nur Thiemeyer produzieren
zu können, und wieder einmal übertrifft er
sich selbst.« Buchwurm.info
»Thomas Thiemeyer bringt mit Nebra das
Hollywoodabenteuerkino zum Lesen nach
Deutschland.«
Alex Dengler, denglers-buchkritik.de
»Nebra ist – zum Teufel noch mal! –
recht Vertrauen fassen will.
Verstandes bringt …
Gletscher unter der Äquatorsonne,
Kaskaden von Rauhreif, Wälder in
ewigem Nebel und turmhohe Blumen –
das Ruwenzori-Gebirge in Ostafrika ist seit
jeher ein besonderer Ort. Hier, so sagt man,
Reich Kitara. Und hier leben Gorillaherden
in einzigartiger Ursprünglichkeit.
Ihr Dasein möglichst naturnah zu erforschen,
hat sich die Biologin Amy Walker
vorgenommen – doch bald machen dramatische
Ereignisse das Idyll zunichte: Amys
Kollege Dr. William Burke verschwindet
spurlos während einer Expedition ins
Gebirge.
Seite stehen. Amy ist mehr als skeptisch,
wenngleich Rays Intelligenz und sein
kompetenter Umgang mit den Gorillas
bald unstrittig sind. Was sie nicht weiß:
Seine Haft verbüßte Ray als Unschuldiger.
Und dem wahren Schuldigen ist er – hier
und jetzt – dicht auf den Fersen …
Mittlerweile kann das Team die Suche nach
William Burke nicht länger aufschieben,
obwohl eine extrem hohe Sonnenaktivität
nie gekannte Wetterkatastrophen
befürchten lässt. Der ganze Urwald
scheint erwartungsvoll zu beben, als Amy
das Signal zum Aufbruch gibt – und als
zwischen den Felsen des Ruwenzori das
erste Schneegewitter über den Suchtrupp
hereinbricht, beginnt ein Horrortrip mitten
ins letzte Geheimnis Afrikas …
vollkommen absurd!
Das junge Mädchen ahnt noch nicht,
dass ihr Abenteuer mit dieser Enthüllung
erst beginnt. Dass sie in eine Welt
eintauchen wird, in der Mythen und
Legenden keine Erfi ndung sind. Dass
sie zusammen mit Sirenen, Wassermännern
und Nymphen den Kampf
gegen ein uraltes Wesen aufnehmen
muss. Und dass sie sich verlieben wird –
in einen guten Freund, der plötzlich
nicht mehr in diese neue Welt passt …
