The world’s globalisation has indeed influenced the region in a positive way. This can be reflected in the growing number and the development of foreign owned companies which have contributed to the regional economic growth. The trend has indeed been positive when looking at over a 10 years period. For instance in 1998, the region had 889 foreign owned companies compared to the figure 2055 which is the case today. The previous report with numbers from 2006 presented 1 969 companies and that meant an increase with 11 % from 2004. From 2006, we can witness an increase of 4, 5 % (2055 companies). In addition, foreign owned companies choosing to place a head office function in the region has increased. The number of head office functions among the foreign owned companies is a total of 1, 380. Looking at types of company structures, it is noticeable that most foreign owned companies enter the Swedish market through acquisitions. This number is slightly higher for Göteborg Region compared nationally. Business partnerships or mergers are being formed with the spread of cultural influences and the sharing of knowledge. The company structure of mergers represents 5 % in Göteborg Region. Customer bases are no longer only domestic; they are becoming more and more international. e more efficient and provide better service. The various types of company structures are shown in Diagram 2 and evidently the representation is relatively the same on both national and regional level. Looking at table 3 TYPES OF COMPANY STRUCTURES which shows the development of foreign-owned companies and the represented in the Göteborg Region, it is apparent that most companies are Norwegian and the last report showed the same. However, in 2004, it was Germany which had the highest number of companies in the region. Looking over the last ten years, the number of Norwegian companies have increased from 100 to 350 – 250 %! The number of German companies, on the other hand, has decreased from 260 companies to 240. The United States ends up third while Denmark still holds number four on this ranking. In addition: new countries have joined us: Malta, Serbia/Montenegro, Peru, and Latvia.
