International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB)/Diplôme du BaccalauréatInternational (BI)The University of Freiburg accepts the IB/BI as higher education entrancequalification if it was acquired on the basis of at least 12 sequential years ata school with full-time instruction and if it fulfills several other requirements. For details (German-language only) on the IB/BI entrance conditions,please visit our Download Center: www.uni-freiburg.de/go/en-10StudienkollegThe “Studienkolleg” (Center for International Students) is intended forinternational student applicants whose secondary school leaving certificate(or non-German university entrance examination records) is not equivalentto German higher education entrance qualification in every respect.Before beginning a course of study in Germany, these applicants must takea “Feststellungsprüfung” (assessment examination) to establish whetherthey are qualified for admission to a higher education institution inGermany.Applicants prepare for the assessment examination in a one-yearpreparatory course at the Studienkolleg. The course includes bothlanguage instruction and general education instruction.Although the University of Freiburg does not have its own Studienkolleg, anarrangement with the Studienkolleg of the University of Heidelberg allowsapplicants to complete the course there. However, applicants for admissionto Freiburg must apply directly to the University of Freiburg (see the section“Applying for Admission to the Studienkolleg”). To gain admission to the Studienkolleg in Heidelberg, you must provideevidence of advanced German-language skills. Your skills mustcorrespond to at least level C1 in the Common European Frameworkof Reference for Languages (CEFR).16
