The Bike to School projectis a collaborative effort with Hiro Oba and Rtn.Mark Oshima <strong>of</strong> RC Tomioka <strong>of</strong> Japan, underwhich they ship used bicycles to the Philippinesfor distribution by RC <strong>Makati</strong> to <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong>s andother recipients.On 11 July, a group <strong>of</strong> Rotarians from the<strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong> <strong>of</strong> Bay in District 3830, headed byPres. Jerwin Aguiba, motored to the Borrome<strong>of</strong>arm in Tanay, Rizal for the turnover <strong>of</strong> 18 bikes fortheir project. PP Freddie, gracious host that he is,toured them around the farm and hosted themto a sumptuous lunch with <strong>of</strong> course, that not tobe missed – lechon!In a letter to Pres. He also urgedeveryone to nominate more youngerAwarding <strong>of</strong> check donation to Philippine Institute <strong>of</strong> the Deafmembers since our target for the year is15 new members. He sent out invitation toall members to join him and Ann Cat whenthey attend the Induction Ball <strong>of</strong> our Sister<strong>Club</strong>, RC Bukit Bintang on July 27.During the meeting, the <strong>Club</strong> awardeda check donation worth P301,000 to thePhilippine Institute <strong>of</strong> the Deaf. Pres.Carlo Rufino and PP Cesar Campos,Chairman for the Teaching the Deaf toSpeak committee were there to turnoverthe check. Also in attendance were thescholars <strong>of</strong> the school to personally thankthe <strong>Club</strong> for the assistance.Shah Tamano, who happens tobe a friend <strong>of</strong> the Colonel made a goodintroduction <strong>of</strong> our Speaker.In this meeting, Col. When the PresidentialCommunications Operations Officewas established in July 2010, heaccepted appointment as its firstSecretary. The PCOO took over the functions <strong>of</strong> the then Office<strong>of</strong> the Press Secretary and has supervision over all governmentmedia organizations.He is currently the Vice Chairman <strong>of</strong> the UNESCO NationalCommission and Chair <strong>of</strong> its Communication and InformationCommittee. He also represents the Philippines as one <strong>of</strong> the threecountry vice-chairs <strong>of</strong> the UNESCO Information for all Program(IFAP) inter-governmental council.His first government stint began when he joined theadministration <strong>of</strong> President Corazon Aquino in 1989 asUndersecretary at the Department <strong>of</strong> Agrarian Reform. Hethen transferred to the Department <strong>of</strong> Transportation andCommunications (DOTC) where he supervised the landtransportation sector. In 1990, he served in the Office <strong>of</strong> thePresident as Head <strong>of</strong> the Presidential Management Staff and CabinetSecretary while also serving as Deputy Executive Secretary.His second stint was during the administration <strong>of</strong> PresidentJoseph Ejercito Estrada as Undersecretary for MaritimeTransportation and for Finance and Administration. He headed thePhilippine delegation to the biennial meetings <strong>of</strong> the InternationalMaritime Organization in London.He is the Don Jose Cojuangco Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> BusinessManagement at the Asian Institute <strong>of</strong> Management (AIM) wherehe is a tenured Pr<strong>of</strong>essor and where he previously served as Deanfor executive education, associate dean for the MBA program, anddirector <strong>of</strong> the Master in Development Management program.He holds a Master in Business Management (MBM) degree fromAIM (With Distinction) and a Doctor <strong>of</strong> Philosophy degree from theSoutheast Asian Inter-Disciplinary Development Institute.He served as President <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Makati</strong> from 1996to 1999.Before joining the academe he was a senior executive <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong>the country’s leading private commercial banks, where he headedthe corporate relations department responsible for dealing withthe bank’s external publics,.He was also a President <strong>of</strong> the People Management Association<strong>of</strong> the Philippines and a past District Governor and internationaltraining leader <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rotary</strong> International.He wrote a weekly column in BusinessWorld for more than twodecades.
