Instytut Nawozów Sztucznych (Fertilizer Research Institute) seated in Puławy, Poland is a state<br />

research institute with a long lasting tradition. Its beginnings as Research Laboratory at United<br />

Factories <strong>of</strong> Nitrogen Compounds date back to 1935. The name was changed into the present<br />

one in 1958.<br />

INS is one <strong>of</strong> the best Polish research institutes. It enjoys a good reputation and INS trade mark<br />

is well known in Poland and abroad.<br />

The principal aim <strong>of</strong> the Institute is work for chemical industry, mainly its fertilizer and inorganic<br />

branches, which leads to making innovations and higher competitiveness <strong>of</strong> companies<br />

operating in chemistry and chemical technology areas. INS carries out research and<br />

development work in close partnership with industry employing high qualified staff and<br />

maintaining latest standards applying to research methods and procedures. It cooperates with<br />

all nitrogen works in Poland and many ones abroad. It has the unique advantage <strong>of</strong> carrying<br />

research works in pilot plants and directly on industrial plants.<br />

In the last 10 years INS signed over 100 local contracts and 65 export ones for sale <strong>of</strong><br />

technologies, licences and products to 15 countries in Europe and Asia.<br />

Work for administration and local authorities (tasks defined in the regulation concerning<br />

fertilizers and fertilization, REACH and CLP regulations, preparation <strong>of</strong> expert opinions etc.) are<br />

an important Institute activity field.<br />

By constant development <strong>of</strong> the investigation potential, scientific and technical staff,<br />

infrastructure and research equipment the Institute is going to become a leader initiating<br />

innovatory actions competitive on the local, European and world markets in the area <strong>of</strong><br />

chemical technology and connected branches such as chemical engineering, safety, and waste<br />

management.<br />
