Waldrand the route leads along a forest track to where it joins the asphalt road
at the Stieglerbauer. Fork right here and return to Ried.
Ried – Schlagalm (1476m) Path No. 1
Walking time: Ried – Schlagalm about 31/2 hours
From the village centre (church) head for Uderns, and after the Hotel Almhof
Lackner fork left towards the edge of the woods. When past the Hotel
Waldrand the route leads to a forest track along which you go a short way,
and fork left uphill. The path then joins a forest road, you fork right and go
a short way downhill. From the next path crossing it’s along a forest road
that climbs moderately up to the Schlagalm, after which a further walk on to
Hochfügen is possible (scheduled bus service from Hochfügen to Fügen).
Ried – Hochalm (1811m) Path No. 2
Walking time: Ried-Hochalm about 31/2 hours
From the village centre head towards Kaltenbach till you reach the Riedbach
bridge, but before that turn right into the forest. The path leads along the
Kreuzweg to the Riedberg chapel, after which it leads down to below the
Seiten farmhouse. After a bend the path branches off to the left into a forest
road, and goes along it until it joins the Zillertaler Höhenstrasse. You continue
along this main road, past the Bodenangeralm to the toll station, where
you turn right uphill on to the path heading for the Hochalm, from which the
walk can continue on to the Kaltenbach Ski Hut, the Wetterkreuzspitze, and
the Gedrechter.
Variant for the return leg: from the Hochalm head for Albl and Krötzingalm
– the Höhenstrasse – Schönblick – and back to Ried.
Ried – Albl (1770m) Path No. 3 – Walking time: Ried-Albl-Hochalm about 4
hours
From the village centre head towards Kaltenbach till you reach the Riedbach
bridge, but before that turn right into the forest. The path leads along the
Kreuzweg to the Riedberg chapel, after which it leads down to below the
Seiten farmhouse. From there it goes on the Zillertaler Höhenstrasse (asphalt),
past the Gasthof Schönblick and along to the path crossing marked for
Krötzing. Then the route is along a forest road until it branches off (left) on
to the path to the Krötzingalm. Then it goes on the forest road again to above
the Krötzingalm, after which turn right uphill on to the Albl-Hochalm path.
Wetterkreuzspitze (2254m) from the Kaltenbach Ski Hut Path No. 10
Walking time: Ski Hut – Wetterkreuzspitze about 21/2 hours
From the Kaltenbach Ski Hut go a short way downhill along the asphalt road
to the turning off to the Hubertus chapel. The route is then along a gravelled
track, past the Hubertus chapel (well worth seeing) to the Hochalm. The path
then leads steeply up, in double bends and between the high pasture buildings,
to the summit of the Wetterkreuzspitze.

Ziller promenade
You can walk right along the whole Ziller valley, without climbing, to the north
(Fügen-Strass) and south (Mayrhofen). In all there are about 60 km of paths
through the Ziller valley along both banks of the river.
