These services are required to meet the needs of mentally disorderedoffenders, the mental health and justice sectors and the community. While we primarilyfocus on providing clinical services, which includes the effective assessment, treatmentand management of forensic patients and clients, we also undertake research, trainingand professional education. Organisationally, Forensicare is structured to provide –• Clinical Services – consisting of Inpatient, Prison and Community programs• Professional Education and Research – our Academic Unit, together with Researchand Professional Education programs• Corporate Support and Development – Administration and Support, Adviceand Planning, Development, Consultancy Services and Communication.LEGISLATION• Mental Health Act 1986 – the Act that establishes the Institute and governsour responsibilities• We also provide services under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitnessto be Tried) Act 1997; Corrections Act 1986; Sentencing Act 1991.CLINICAL OPERATIONS• Thomas Embling Hospital – a 118 bed, secure inpatient hospital locatedin Fairfield.• Prison Mental Health Service – consisting of a 16-bed Acute Assessment Unit,specialist clinics, outpatient services and a reception assessment program atMelbourne Assessment Prison, together with a consultant psychiatric serviceto the larger state-managed prisons.• Community Forensic Mental Health Service – providing four specialist communityprograms – Community Forensic Mental Health Program, Court Services, ProblemBehaviour Program and the Community Integration Program.The Annual Report and complementary Annual Research Report to Council are available on our website –www.forensicare.vic.gov.auVictorian Institute of Forensic Mental HealthYarra Bend RoadFairfield 3078Tel 61 3 9495 9100 Fax 61 3 9495 9190Email info@forensicare.vic.gov.auwww.forensicare.vic.gov.auABN 32 807 323 885 ISSN 1442-990XVictorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health Annual Report 2006-2007
