Personalization: Many employees look for means to express themselvesthrough the decoration of their workstations. The workstation design shouldprovide sufficient space, vertical and horizontal, to support personalizationthrough the display of memorabilia, plants, photographs, etc. In addition,organizations should support personalization with policies that permit it andset out reasonable limits, if necessary.Research:PersonalizationThe items that occupants displayexpress their identities and contributeto others’ impressions of them, therebyplaying a role in social relations. Employeeswho display more personal items in theiroffices show higher environmental satisfaction,job satisfaction and well-being, and rate theirorganizations more positively. their input. Several consultation techniques are available, including formalsurveys and scales for pre- and post-occupancy evaluation, focus groups,and fitting trials (test runs of prototypedesigns). The most common form wasteam spaces (42% of respondents), followed by telecommuting (22-32%depending on the organisation’s size). It is still essentialto design with employee needs and tasks in mind. Whether employees workin traditional cubicles, at home, or in team spaces, they still need appropriatelighting, thermal, air quality, acoustic, and work space conditions to functioneffectively.
