The result is astrong, diverse program in which participantsare motivated by their love of the game andtheir desire to excel.Over the years W&L students have beenimpressive on and off the playing fields.A capsule sketch of that success is listedbelow:THE SCHOOL• Located in historic Lexington, Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley• Founded in 1749 and is the ninth oldest college in America• Has an undergraduate enrollment of 1,760 students and a law school with 400students• The average class size is just 16 students• The tuition fee for 2006-07 is $31,175• The early decision application deadlines are November 15 and January 1, andthe regular application deadline is January 15THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM• W&L sponsors 23 varsity sports, 12 for men and 11 for women• All sports compete at the NCAA Division III level and the majority of teams competein the Old Dominion Athletic Conference• W&L has won the ODAC Commissioner's Cup for overall excellence in men's andwomen's athletics 10 of the last 12 years• In 2005-2006, W&L won 65 percent of its contests and 10 conference championships• Seventy-nine athletes earned first team all-conference honors last season and17 were named All-Americans• 194 athletes were named to receive Scholar-Athlete Awards for achieving at leasta 3.500 grade point average in a term last school year• Since 1970, W&L has had 25 athletes earn prestigious NCAA Postgraduatescholarships• In the last 25 years, W&L has had 38 athletes earn CoSIDA Academic All-Americahonors and countless others have been named to CoSIDA Academic All-DistrictteamsTHE CROSS COUNTRY PROGRAM• W&L's men's cross country program dates to 1914 and, in 1985, cross countrybecame the first sport for women at W&L• W&L's men have won five state championships, seven ODAC championships,and the 1995 NCAA Div. III Southeast Regional, advancing to the 1995 NCAADiv. III Championships• W&L's women have won seven state championships and nine Old DominionAthletic Conference championships, the most of any school in the ODAC
