In addition to the importation of a wide variety of bottled wines from different countries, this is due in part to the fact that many Japanese wines are blended with imported bulk wine during production, and as such, imported wine is essential for the wine market. On the other hand, beer has the highest volume share in the alcohol market (38.2%, refer to Fig.1), and is monopolized by 4 domestic manufacturers (Asahi Beer, Kirin Beer, Sapporo Beer, Suntory), with the share of imported products at 0.7%. Regarding happoshu, the share of imported products is slightly higher, because Japanese private products, and developed and imported products, which are used as ingredients in production, are imported from Korea, etc. Also, some domestic manufacturers have concluded license contracts for overseas whisky brand products and manufacture the whisky in Japan, so the share of imported products remains at approximately 20%. This can be seen as the result of the good sale of domestic brand single malt whisky.
