Electric ActuatorType 5857ApplicationElectric actuator for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning.For force-locking Types 3222, 3222 N, 3226, 3260, 3267 and2488 Valves in nominal size DN 15 to 25.The Type 5857 Actuator is a linear actuator which is controlledby either continuous-action signals or three-point stepping signals.Special features• 6 mm travel• Supply voltage 230 V, 50 Hz or 24 V, 50 Hz• Three-point stepping version or digital positioner• Synchronous motor with maintenance-free gear• Motor switched off by torque switches• Handwheel for manual adjustment• Travel indicatorDigital positioners (in preparation)The version with 24 V AC can optionally be delivered with adigital positioner. Its special features include:• Initialization of automatic calibration at the press of a button• Current travel calculated over the transit time• Readjustment of the feedback signal on approaching the finalpositions (signal 98%)orreaching the (selectable)final positions• Configuration, parameterization, diagnostic function, anddirect connection for monitoring over TROVIS-VIEW software:– Direct data transmission over a connecting cable (directconnection with PC)– Data transmission over a memory penAccessories for the positioner– TROVIS-VIEW configuration software (6661-1061) for Type5857 Electric Actuator– Hardware package with a memory pen, connecting cableand module adapter, order no. 1400-7704– Memory pen, order no. 1400-7697Fig. 1 · Type 5857 Electric ActuatorEdition August 2004Data SheetT 5857 EN

Principle of operation (Fig. 2)The electric actuator consists of a reversible synchronous motorand a maintenance-free gear. The actuator is connected to the valve by means of a couplingnut (4) which provides a force-locking connection between theactuator stem and the plug stem of the valve. The control signal from the input side is transferred over the motorand the connected gear and used as the positioning force tomove the actuator stem. When the actuator stem (3) extends, the valve is closed, opposingthe force of the valve spring (7). When the actuator stem retracts, the valve is opened by the plug stem (6) which follows themotion of the return spring. The motor is switched off by torque-dependent switches whenthe valve has reached one of its final positions or the motor isoverloaded. The handwheel (2) allows the valve to be moved to the requiredposition when the actuator is disconnected from the powersupply.Travel and direction of action can be read off the travel indicator(5) located on the side of the actuator. The Type 5857 Actuator can be combined preferably withSAMSON Types 3222, 3222 N, 3226, 3260, 3267 and 2488Valves.Additional electrical equipmentThe actuator can optionally be equipped in the 24-V versionwith a positioner.Positioners guarantee a predetermined assignment of valve positionand control signal.A 0 to 10 V signal can be issued to the red (rd) and orange (or)wires for position feedback. The version with positioner allows the characterstic to be reversedand is suitable for split-range ranges of 0 to 5 V or 5 to10 V.Technical dataType 5857 Actuator1 Actuator1.1 Cable2 Handwheel3 Actuator stemFig. 2 · Principle of operation4 Coupling nut5 Travel indicator6 Plug stem7 Valve springMountingBefore attaching the actuator to the valve, retract the actuatorstem.
