Artist of the Month:Luke Ecksteinby Hannah BairdHave you always been interested in art? When didyou start to take in interest in photography?I became interested in photography my junior year.Before then, I didn’t care much for art. I started inphotography I, and then went on to photographyII. In photography II, it was only me and one otherstudent, so Ms. Kay decided that we go a differentroute. This is how I got into photo shop (a computerprogram used to edit photos). I researched AndyWarhol’s work, and soon used him as inspiration formany of my pieces. Gradually, I taught myself howto use photo shop.How does it feel to be the first current student todisplay an art show in the Anderson Exhibition Centerin ULS’s Manoogian Arts Wing?It feels really good to have all of my work displayed.I would feel better if it wasn’t a last minute gig (theartist who was supposed to show case didn’t comethrough). However, I am really happy that it allowsme to get all of my art out to show the community.How long does it normally take you to critique onephotograph?they are more tedious than the others.What gets you into work mode?To gather ideas, I go onto www.allposters.com to lookat fine art and different mediums. To get into the zone Iblast Kid Cudi on my computer.Do you plan on making art a part of your career? If so,how?I somewhat plan on making a career of it. I have beenoffered up a few internships. For example, advertisingcompany, Route 55, which I will probably consider as mysenior project.Do you have a favorite quote that you like to have as amotto?“An artist is somebody who produces things that peopledon’t have to have.” –Andy WarholWhat are your plans for this upcoming year?I am looking at a lot of art schools. At this point, I ammostly interested in Columbia College in Chicago. Theyhave many good programs that I am interested in.What are your long term goals in art?To continue with it and to not just keep it in advertising,but have some gallery openings. Basically, not completelycommercial.It depends. I wentto Ireland this pastsummer and took alot of great pictures,but didn’t have anadapter with me. Thisprocess took a littlebit longer than therest. It takes about anhour to photo shopa photograph. WhenI first started, it tookabout two hours to doonly basic techniques.There are some piecesthat take up to a weekto photo shop because
