The <strong>Mission</strong> not only encourages documentationof manuscript collections all over the country butalso plans to publish them. We have a programmeof publishing descriptive catalogues of all thecollections of the Manuscript Resource Centresworking with the <strong>Mission</strong>.The <strong>Mission</strong> has published a catalogue of theexhibition of Indian manuscripts at the FrankfurtBook Fair, Germany. The catalogue covers severalaspects of Indian manuscripts. It is divided into 6sections; ‘From Clay to Copper’ giving us an idea ofthe variety of materials on which texts are found;‘The Making of a Manuscript’ with in<strong>for</strong>mation onstyluses and inkpots; ‘Fields of Learning’ whichprovides an overview of the different areas whichmanuscripts deal in; ‘Veneration, Submission,Worship’ shows us the importance of the wordwhich is considered sacred; the fifth section,‘Word and Image’ provides us a glimpse ofillustrated manuscripts in the country; lastly, ‘RoyalCommands and Plain Records’ is an indicator ofthe fact that manuscripts were an integral partof lives of everyone from the King to thecommon man.The word is Sacred Sacred is the WordThe Word is Sacred, Sacred is the Word- the Indian ManuscriptTradition by B.
