The Universityis privileged to have a large collection of raremanuscript related to literature, history, astronomy,astrology, religion and philosophy. The collectionalso contains old coins, old pictures and a map ofAgra from the time of Shah Jahan and other items ofimmense historical value. The University is makingevery possible ef<strong>for</strong>t <strong>for</strong> the careful preservationof these treasures. The K. M. Institute of Hindi &Linguistics established as early as 1953 is activelyinvolved in the preservation and study of thesemanuscripts some of the outcome of this study isthe edited work on Sursagar Padmawat BeesaldevRaso etc. There is a section of special collectionsin the Central Library which includes the Mahajancollection, the Srivastava collection and the BagchiCollection. It is considered a focalpoint <strong>for</strong> Sanskrit culture and studies in India. TheUniversity has a valuable collection of 1,25,000manuscripts covering all the subjects in Devanagari,Bengali and Sarada scripts. The University haspublished valuable catalogues of manuscripts.Among these, the older catalogue comprises themanuscripts acquired in 1791–1950 and the newone covers those obtained in 1951–1981. Bothcontain a large number of extremely valuablemanuscripts.Sampurnananda Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya signedthe MOU with the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Mission</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Manuscripts</strong>in May 2005. It has 8 scholars working in10 districts towards the collection and preservationof manuscripts.
