palm-leaves and paper scrolls. There are many typesof manuscripts & documents seen during surveyperiod in the possession of the villagers. One type ofdocument which are found with village performersare “family right deeds or hakku patras”. The membersof performer families have received right to performfrom the village elders and by some local authority.The hakku patras allow these villagers to performin forty villages known as “patti”. The New Catalogus Catalogorum isa comprehensive alphabetical register of Sanskritand allied works in Pali, Prakrit and Apabhramsacarried out by the University of Madras since 1935.The National Mission had taken steps to restart thisillustrious programme. Through financial supportfrom the Mission, the publication of volumes werebrought out by 2007. So far volumes have beencompleted through this project.The University signed a second MOU in July2004 to collaborate as a MRC for locating anddocumenting the manuscripts of Tamil Nadu. TheMRC has documented and produced electronicdata on 7,500 manuscripts covering 5 institutions,29 mutts, 2 universities and 25 private collectionsin 7 districts.Address:V. The Institute was established with a viewto collecting all material relating to Saiva Agamas,scriptures of the Saiva religious tradition called theSaiva Siddhanta, which has flourished in South Indiasince the eighth century A. D. The manuscript collectionof the Institute was compiled under its Founder–Director, Jean Filliozat. The manuscripts in need ofurgent preservation cover a wide variety of topics suchas Vedic ritual, Saiva Agama, Sthalapurana and scriptssuch as Grantha and Tamil. The collection consistsof approximately 8,600 palm-leaf codices (including360 bundles of texts written on paper) and 1,144transcripts of manuscripts on paper in Devanagariscript including five illustrated manuscripts.It is unique as it has the largest collection ofSaiddhantika manuscripts in the world.The MRC at the French Institute has been in operationsince August 2003. It has so far documented 37, 494manuscripts into the database of the Mission.Address:T.
