D) All st<strong>and</strong>s with <strong>of</strong>fices, storerooms, corridors or void areas under the main platform must have suitable fireprecautions, including:i) Smoke detectors in all areas, linked together.ii)A ‘howler’ should be fitted adjacent to all final exit doors, as well as one in the main <strong>of</strong>fice area. The Howlershould be used as a manual warning siren to help evacuate the larger st<strong>and</strong>s. Link all howlers together togive st<strong>and</strong>staff an audible early warning <strong>of</strong> a fire/emergency, <strong>and</strong> make sure they know how/when/why to usea howler.iii)The Boat Show ‘fire door sign’ must be fitted prominently onto all final exit doors, preferably near a ‘howler’.Ensure your staff are aware <strong>of</strong> the sign <strong>and</strong> the instructions on it.iv)Emergency lighting to BS5266 part 8, including a maintained emergency light above all emergency exits <strong>and</strong>clear directional exit signs to BS2560/BS5499 along all exit routes.v)Suitable fire extinguishers to BSen3 1996. Exhibitions should each have at least one on their own st<strong>and</strong>. (Nb:st<strong>and</strong>ard fire extinguishers will be positioned around the show. Other special extinguishers are available viathe organisers but must be ordered at least one month prior to the show).vi) All materials should be to BS476 part 7, class 1.E) As an option complex st<strong>and</strong>s can fit a simple fire detection system to BS5839-1 2002, fire alarm code nondomesticto st<strong>and</strong>ard 15. Smoke detectors in such systems should be fitted to BSEN54-7.F) Ensure that smoking is banned on your st<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong> that staff do not smoke underneath the st<strong>and</strong>, in storage areasout <strong>of</strong> sight.G) For very large st<strong>and</strong>s with many staff, we recommend you have a simple system in place to ensure that all staffmembers are recorded upon arrival on the st<strong>and</strong> (name <strong>and</strong> their mobile number) so that they can be easily tracedin the event <strong>of</strong> a st<strong>and</strong> or hall evacuation.H) Complex st<strong>and</strong>s should have their own first aid box <strong>and</strong> qualified first-aider,I) Please also see the ‘double deck fire strategy’ advice sheet from the organisers onsite.7. Lifting:Lifting operations can only be carried out by the appointed show contractor. All lifting areas on or around your st<strong>and</strong>that you are responsible for must be suitably guarded <strong>and</strong> warning signs hung. Hard hats <strong>and</strong> hi-vis jackets must beworn at all times when in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> lifting. Never work under overhead work being carried out.8. 5mph Speed Limit:Vehicles are to observe a 5mph speed limit <strong>and</strong> switch hazard lights on. Please use a Banksman when reversing.Beware <strong>of</strong> pedestrians <strong>and</strong> remove the vehicle straight after unloading. To avoid fumes, do not let it idle.9. Late Working:All work must stop during the hours <strong>of</strong> twilight <strong>and</strong> darkness although some temporary lighting may be required in theearly evening <strong>and</strong> under multi-level st<strong>and</strong>s. Do not permit lone working at any time.10. Guarding <strong>of</strong> Exhibits & Demos:All moving, sharp or hazardous parts <strong>of</strong> machinery, exhibits <strong>and</strong> engine displays (ie: propellers) must be adequately<strong>and</strong> safely guarded so as to prevent injury to persons - especially visitors - throughout the build-up, open <strong>and</strong>breakdown periods. Should you wish to remove any normal guarding for display purposes you must get the writtenapproval <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Safety</strong> Manager first. A suitably strong see-through material may be used along with a large warningsign <strong>and</strong> distance guards (simple rope <strong>and</strong> post may suffice in some cases). The engine or machine must beelectrically <strong>and</strong> mechanically disconnected <strong>and</strong> a suitable <strong>and</strong> sufficient RA undertaken in writing. The <strong>Safety</strong> Managermust inspect <strong>and</strong> approve all such items prior to the Show opening. All equipment being operated or demonstrated
