Arthritis is adebilitating illness and is the nation's leading cause <strong>of</strong> disability. Itcosts the economy $86 BILLION annually. All ages (66 millionadults & 300,000 children), ethnic backgrounds and both sexes aretargets. Take a moment to think about what it would be like if youwere crippled by some form <strong>of</strong>arthritis. What couldn't you do thatyou currently enjoy?FROM GRANDMA'S KITCHENTuna Filled Tomatoes3 hard - cooked eggs, coarsely chopped1 (90z.) can tuna, drained and flaked3Ai cup sliced celeryY4 cup sliced green onion[Ai cup sweet pickle relish[Ai to 1/3 cup mayonnaise[Ai tsp. lemon pepper1/8 tsp. salt3 drops hot pepper sauce (optional)4 medium tomatoeslettuce leaves and paprika1. Combine first 9 ingred ients, cover and chill. 2. Core tomatoes.Cut each into 6 wedges, cutting to, but not through, base <strong>of</strong>tomato.3. Arrange each tomato on a lettuce lined plate. Spoon tuna mixtureinto tomatoes, sprinkle with paprika.Caramelts1 (14 oz.) package caramelsY4 cup milk4 cups Rice Crispies1 cup salted roasted peanuts1. Unwrap caramels, and place in a large saucepan. Add milk;cook over low heat until caramels melt, stirring <strong>of</strong>ten. Remove fromheat. 2. Stir in cereal and peanuts. Spoon into a buttered 8 inch pan.Firmly press mixture into pan. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack.Cut into squares.Gooey Turtle Bars1 cup butter, melted1 (l2oz.) box vanilla wafer cookies, finely crushed1 (120z.) package semisweet chocolate chips1 (12oz.) jar caramel topping1 cup coarsely chopped pecans1. Preheatoven to 350 degrees. Combine butter and wafer crumbsin a 9in.x13in. baking pan. Sprinkle with chocolate chips; drizzlewith caramel topping, and sprinkle with pecans. 2. Bake at 350degrees for 18 to 20 minutes or until chips melt; cool completely inpan on a wire rack. Chill at least 2 hours.100% <strong>of</strong> your donations sent through the PA IOOF ArthritisCommittee go to the three PA Arthritis Foundation Chapters to helpthe kids with arthritis that go to Camp JRA each summer or theadults with arthritis who participate in the many programs gearedto the older population or the many others who participate in otherprograms <strong>of</strong>fered by the PA Arthritis Chapters.Our PA donations are down. The year-end for Sovereign <strong>Grand</strong><strong>Lodge</strong> accounting is March 31st. Please dig deep in your pockets andincrease those contributions.
