Jonathon Quinlan now acts as the Learn to Swim Program Head
Teacher. Jonathon himself was a former National Level swimmer for
Australia, and since 2004 has been teaching and training swimmers
at various venues around Hong Kong. He leads the Learn To Swim
section of the program, coordinating applications and assessments,
and ensuring quality and consistency of teaching is maintained
across the Learn To Swim classes.
Polly Chan is the 4th Full-time staff member. Polly is a former Hong
Kong Life Saving Team member (2000 – 2003) who represented
Hong Kong in the World Life Saving Championship 2002. In
addition to her lifesaving skills and qualifications, Polly is a HKASA
qualified Swimming Coach level 1. She has 6 years experience
teaching children aged from 3-10 years old. Polly is a full-time
Learn to Swim instructor and will also be taking private lessons.
Since coming on board, the program has evolved enormously.
From the first classes on 14 June 2007, the program has grown
from 34.5 teaching hours, to 58 teaching and coaching hours,
excluding those in Wan Chai 50m pool for the Competition Squad.
New classes and initiatives include:
• Novice level LTS
• Adult LTS
• Aqua Fit
• Masters – Stroke class, intermediate level
and competitive
• Junior Elite Squad
• Competitive Squad
• Sports Members
• Swim Talks
• Team Kit
• Badges for advancement within LTS.
The one thing that has not changed over the past five years is the fee
schedule. After a through review of the entire LRC swim program
and other comparable swim programs in Hong Kong, the
Swimming Subcommittee has put forward a new fee schedule
which brings charges inline with general increases in costs and
comparable swim programmes. The new fee structure will go into
effect 1 September 2010. The fee structure can be found in full in
Fastlane, the sports desk and posted on the bulletin board.
