General technical information<strong>active</strong> <strong>brake</strong> <strong>line</strong>Product <strong>line</strong> information<strong>active</strong><strong>brake</strong>The ACTIVE BRAKE LINE iscomprised of DC operatedsingle-disc <strong>brake</strong>s where thedynamic effect of an electromagneticfield is used togenerate the braking effect(electromagneticallyengaged <strong>brake</strong>s). ACTIVEBRAKE LINE products ensurea reliable <strong>brake</strong> releasewith zero residual torque inany mounting position andzero backlash during torquetransmission. The <strong>brake</strong>s aremanufactured and tested incompliance with DIN VDE 0580requirements. The insulationmaterials used conform withthermal class F norms.Operation of the <strong>brake</strong> as apure holding <strong>brake</strong> withoutfriction work is only permittedafter prior consultation with themanufacturer. The specifiedtimes apply to the followingconditions: seperate switchingof the <strong>brake</strong>, operatingtemperature, rated voltage, andrated air gap. All values aremean values that are subject tovariation. In case of AC <strong>brake</strong>switching, the coupling time t 1is substantially longer. W max(maximum switching energy) isthe switching energy that mustnot be exceeded duringbraking operations at max.1000 rpm. Braking operationsat >1000 rpm lead to asubstantial reduction in themaximum admissible switchingenergy per switching operation.Such operation is onlypermitted after prior consultationwith the manufacturer.The maximum switching power- 5 -P max is the switching energy Wthat can be converted by the<strong>brake</strong> per hour. In the case ofapplications where the numberof switching operations perhour is greater than 1 (Z>1), thediagram (W max as a function ofthe number of switchingoperations per hour Z) shownin the operating instructionsapplies. The P max and W maxvalues are approximate values.The specified rated torques M 2characterise the torque level ofthe <strong>brake</strong>s. Depending on theapplication of the <strong>brake</strong>, theswitching torque M 1 and thetransmissible torque M 4 maydiffer from the specified M 2values. The switching torqueM 1 depends on the speed(rpm). If the friction surfacesare contaminated with oil,grease or dirt the transferabletorque M 4 and the switchingtorque M 1 may drop.All technical data is subject tothe running-in process of the<strong>brake</strong> being completed.<strong>active</strong> <strong>brake</strong> <strong>line</strong>
